What excites you about your recovery?

I am starting to get excited about all the potential things I can do now that I'm in recovery. I noticed today that rather then projecting negatively I can project positively. For example, I have a degree that opens me up for other jobs I never thought of considering. I like my job now but now that I'm sober the opportunities are endless. What do you look forward to that you may not have before when actively drinking?

Losing weight and saving money! Also having friends and building new relationships too. Just being happier in general. Nothing satisfies me more than being able to get up early without a hangover and be able to get things done. Its a massive sense of accomplishment. When I get in bed I feel SO satisfied it completely reminds me WHY I do not need alcohol in my life.

Managing emotions.
I used to control all of my emotions with booze/drugs. If I wanted to feel a certain way, I'd take the fitting substance.
Now I'm actually feeling my feelings whether they're nice ones or not so nice ones without needing to alter my state in anyway.
As lame as that may be for some people, it's pretty exciting for me!!

Removal of the horrendous obsession to use that filled every moment. I quit cigs, alcohol & drugs so I've saved about $2k in my 3 months of sobriety. Not waking up in a fog or worse with regrets of my behavior.

Good topic, thanks.

All such great rewards... I like to remind myself of all the wonderful things I'm experiencing & hearing from all of you . Not lame Jen , I also numbed every feeling w alcohol & feelings can sometimes be unpleasant but I can cope with things so much better now that I'm sober.

I like the fact that my intelligence has returned (trying not to sound boastful). When I drank, I just couldn't think straight. In fact, I could barely think at all. Not only was my judgment clouded, but my mind from 3pm on was obsessively thinking about booze.

Being able to face life up front without using alcohol to hide from my problems. Still working on that and it will be a long road but I already feel better about it just a few months in.

Ditto. The urges were terrible. They still are but I am trying new strategies.

Great question! So many things excite me now! Feeling clean and clear and so much more confident. Seeing my healthy body emerge, having lost 15 pounds in just 3 months after giving up alcohol. Seeing the whites of my eyes again and real face shape return (no more bloat.) Getting a great nights sleep, every single night. Waking up feelings wonderful and hopeful. Knowing that I can get my workout in at any time of the day or night. Realizing that I am in control of my life.

The sharpness I feel now that I have given up drinking.
I feel mentally more alert, maybe even more clever.

I feel I can take on tasks and try and do well without the fog of a hangover and the apathy that drinking brings.

I think that before my focus was just getting home and getting drunk.
If anything got in the way of that then I saw it as a real bore, it got in the way of my drinking and I had zero desire to do it, let alone do it well.

I wish I could find the time and energy to do more exercise.
I would love to see how in shape I could get, as I eat very healthy.

I'm looking forward to be able to run over to my next door neighbours at night without worrying about them smelling wine on me. Looking forward to spending time with people I know who don't drink, I used to think oh heck what fun is a night with them. Looking forward to not having to hide this habit all the time. Looking forward to life.

Looking forward to waking up feeling amazing each and everyday and not wondering if I'm going to have a hangover throughout my day.

My life was built on lies.
The lies actually became my rock bottom.

I couldnt live like that anymore.

Now if you are honest you dont have anything to remember

Being healthy, strong and looking good in my jeans that no longer fit. Clear skin, healthy nails and hair, no longer battling with myself because I have made my decision. Today is the first day in a long time in not having that argument with myself. Only drink I will have tonight, is a hot cup of tea. Also I am doing slimming world so now I can use my treat suns on something that won't make me ill. I won't feel jealous of my slimming world friends for losing and I haven't AGAIN because of wine. I could go on and on....
