My bank account likes me sober!

I haven't been an angel these past 3 1/2 to 4 weeks. But I've been sober every day except for 3 slip ups, three nights where i drank. (which i'm pretty sure will be even less these next couple weeks)

And I have an $200 more in my account than I normally would on pay day!

It's a nice little bonus.

Stay Sober everyone... its money in the bank!

How sad is it to say I don't know how much money is in my bank account, but I know exactly how many beers I have left in the beer fridge. =(

Probably even more sad to admit I have a fridge just for the beer.

I figure I will save about $250 per month. For me that's a lot of money!

What sux is when you lose your license because of stupid drinking and it cost you $130 per day to get to work and home.

Thats what sux. Plus you have to deal with it for a year. 4 months left for me.

I don't know how much I spent on liquor each month, but I'm thinking it was somewhere around $400. As I bought about $200 worth of stuff while to entertain me during my cravings.

I had a beer fridge. Still do. Covered in beer stickers. Full of Arnold Palmers currently so I guess it's now the Arnold Palmer fridge.

I spent anywhere from 50 to 100 a week on booze. Now I got that money towards a new cyclocross bike that I hope to pick up soon. So many benefits for being sober. No benefits to being drunk.

I gave up drinking over two years ago. By this time if I had kept drinking I figured I would have spent over 100 grand(conservative figure) in my young life on booze, I'm 32 now. So it does add up. I was a bar drinker and could spend 100-200 a weekend on booze. Just another benefit of being sober!

I was a cheap $6 a bottle vodka drinker so I'm not saving much. It's those late night yayo phone calls while drinking that cost me money. I don't pick up the phone for that now that I'm sober.

I did the $6 bottle for awhile, but that stopped cutting it, so I loved to the larger $8.99 bottle, plus I'd buy some larger 24oz beers to try to convince myself I'd drink slower and more responsibly if I had a beer to sip on in between shots.

probably spent 8.99- 15.00 a day on liquor.

but even at $6.00 a day, that still $180 a month.

My dad used to say, "The Devil will feed you." If you're an alcoholic, you'll always find a way to drink. He had so many tricks for getting drinks at bars, and using clever accounting to always make sure you had liquor money in the budget. As much as I resented him being an alcoholic, I have to be grateful, if he didn't have such a bad drinking problem, I probably wouldn't have noticed mine until years and years later.

6 dollars a day sure does not sound like that much
but
looking at the 180 for the month -- wow that's a chunk on money

just guessing
with my booze and pills in the later days maybe 20 bucks a day
gee wiz -- that's 600 dollars a month
no wonder I have so much cash in my pocket now !!!

not to mention the younger days for me
when I did a lot of coke also
1/8 ball might only last two or three days
thank God I'm alive

7200 a year! ... that's a huge raise you gave yourself being sober...

I rarely ever did coke, but there's no way I'd be able to make an 8 ball last 3 days...

That'd be one of those dumb things I'd do drinking... spend $100 at the bar, then find someone and buy some coke (which i only did If i was crazy drunk) turning my bill for a night out at closer to 300 dollars... with cabs and etc.

I roughly calculated $3,640 a year between my husband and I...just from what we drink at home....I have no clue what to add if I counted drinks in restaurants, etc...sounds like a vacation to me!

you know I think this to be a pretty darn good thread
it's good for me at least to see what the heck I was spending
and now what I'm saving

it's amazing
I didn't even think Dib42 about the 7,200 monies a year spent
no wonder all of my bills are paid today

not even to mention my last drunken year
I got into a little trouble if you know what I mean
my bail was 7,500 hundred dollars
so I guess for that year I come up with a grand total of 14,700 spent

I had better not tell the wife !!!
no - it all came out of my personal savings
but I must say -- ouch ouch ouch

this sobriety thing pays off in so many different ways

as I thank God every day
