Staying sober today will mark the longest I've ever gone

It's day four for me today, early days I know but I've never been sober beyond four days in a row for many many years. I went three days a few months back but failed on the fourth (have some old posts about it on this forum).

I'm passed Fri/Sat night and I'm feeling very positive. I still of course have suggestive thoughts about drinking but I'm quick to vanquish them...

I remind myself of all the reasons I'm doing this - I'm reminded of my life before I abused alcohol and those thoughts get me EXCITED!

I'll be checking in here tonight.

Just keep going, 24 hours at a time.

After awhile you begin to develop new attitudes and behaviors. Each day becomes a little bit easier than the day before and the days start to add up.

Woo HOOOO!!!! That's really great and big congratulations to you! After a while, you lose the memory of what it feels like to be sober and you need to refamiliarize yourself with that. Every day is a bit easier.

Congrats and keep on going!! I was constantly thinking of alcohol in the early days but every day is better than the last and the more time you put between now and your last drink the better it gets!!

Goodnight all and thank you!

I'm really pleased with myself, still not sure how but I've found a new strength that has helped me stop

Today is day 5 and I'm ready to tackle it like the others past.

To everyone's credit and to other new comers like myself, like people here say it does get a little bit easier day by day. The first day was a huge (even unnerving) challenge - I had to really plan to ensure I'd get through day one (no access to cash and a few other little things).

However the empowerment after day one, and day by day, continues to grow.

I have many challenges ahead of me, I want to make it and I know what to do if I run in to troubles, and above all I'm not scared to reach out here and elsewhere even if things dd come undone, but that's not part of my plan or outlook at all right now.

Every story has to start somewhere, and the point at where it does as for anything in life is generally arbitrary - that's how my story started. I'm excited for the rest of the story.. the future.

Good for you. I wish I were where you are at. 24 hrs seems to be all I can do, if that. What a curse we have.

One week ago I couldn't even get to the 24hr mark, so good for you!

Zelarom there's so much experienced help on this forum, it really helped me. I just reached out and held nothing back, for me that's what I needed. The responses and help I received were incredible. You won't feel alone, everyone is here to help each other.

For me it's plan plan plan! One day at a time. You've gone 24 hrs, what do can you do to continue that?

Congrats!

It sounds like we are in the same boat. Yesterday was also my first completed day four in several years. It is strange, today seemed much easier. Good luck to you in each new day.
