I'm here because I finally realized that I can't do this by myself. My family doesn't understand. Alcohol was my escape to feeling good about what is happening around me. I don't want to fail again.
Thanks for your response.

Welcome to the family soveryscared! The good news is you are taking action. You never have to go back to being miserable and sick.
I was older when I quit - I'd been drinking for 30 yrs. I can't believe I kept insisting I could control it. I waited until my life was in shambles before coming here and getting the support and help I needed. Drinking no longer took me where I wanted to go - & it was destroying me. I found the courage to stop by sharing my feelings here - it was so good to not be alone anymore.

Well D,
I am going to go day by day and look ahead not back. Any suggestions that you have would be helpful. I never blamed my problems on the bottle but on what ever it was that drove me to it.
Once I started and it made me feel better it was my drug of choice. I did not see what It was doing to my family until we had a huge shouting match. I guess we should have had it long ago. I hope I haven't lost them forever. I will have to prove that I can do this, but I have to prove this to myself first.

I think the best thing to do is focus on your recovery for now - in my experience things tend to fall into palace a little better once we have that sorted....even relationships...actions speak far louder than words.
There's a lot of support here to stay sober...a lot of ideas for real world support too...read around and post as much as you like...find an approach you like
