11 days sober
11 days sober
I am eleven days sober today but am having a hard moment right now because I just found out my cat my die. My roommate is out in the garage with my favorite drink - red wine. I am really trying to not go there.
Congratulations on 11 days! You'll be glad you stayed sober through this. There's a lot of us here with pets, so make yourself at home!
I lost a kitty last year, and will never forgive myself for drinking then. It was bad enough what happened to my cat, I didn't need to subject myself to all that unnecessary pain also.

Welcome FleaKitty -
SR is a great community - wonderful to have you join.
Losses are tough, but drinking isn't going to make it better. Play it forward - If you drink tonight you'll still be grieving tomorrow, only you'll have the addition of making it worse with a hangover. Is that what you want?
Posting here, calling a friend, and getting out for some exercise are all things that help me work through grieving.
Sending a warm hug

Hey, I'm roughly in Portland also. I'm really sory about your cat. Welcome to SR. I'm only 4 days sober myself, but yeah definitely stay right here and post away, browse the forums, get outside for a walk. Glad to have you here.
Thank you for your replies. I was so close but I hung in there. My instant response to emotional stress/pain has always been to seek instant relief by drinking but if I can get through this sober then hopefully the next time won't be as difficult. Thank you so much for your replies - I've never used a forum before-
Fantastic FleaKitty....look forward to many more posts from you. I would like to hear how you are doing, it helps me convince myself I can keep going. We do that for each other here. Sorry about your Kitty. I have a pug that is getting old and going blind. It is heartbreaking, but that is life, and we are learning to live life on life's terms. Drinking ONLY makes things worse...for me anyway.

So sorry bout kitty, but so happy you have 11 days sober. Our kitties for months used to go for a walk around the block with our beagle, Only the beagle was on a leash and the little kitty ran into the headlights of a car. It was so sad. I feel your loss.
Hi Fleakitty, I am so sorry to hear about your kitty. My deepest sympathy; I too lost two cats over the past year. I'm happy that you were able to resist the urge, just stay in the moment and continue to be the best caretaker you can for your kitty and when the time comes to say your final goodbye, you will know that you were both blessed to have shared the time you had together.
Stay with us on SR, it really does help to get through those difficult moments. I am on day 46 and couldn't have done it without the support I find here!
