nutrition and vitamins
I'm new here- looking for advice and info on any supplements that could aid in healing some of the damage that decades of substance abuse have caused. Am I even producing dopamine or seratonnine naturally after 20+ years of chemical use? I have no energy enthusiasm or mental clarity. I'm reluctant to go to a doctor and don't want to get on antidepresents but I'm desperate enough to try anything. HELP! I don't want to use but I'm trying to operate a business and have to get off my ass and produce. I don't punch a clock and have to self motivate. It feels like self employed and self medicating go hand in hand. I'm a firm believer in nutritional supplements, herbs, homeopathic remedies and natural healing. There has to be something that can help. I'm not looking for a cure all or magic bullet- just something to help heal the damage ive done. Any suggestions.
Hi loraine - welcome
The only thing I took was a multi-vitamin. Nor sure if it helped but it made me feel better in myself
I think we have to remember that we abused our bodies terribly, sometimes for years - it will take a little time for things to get right again - but they will
I know the urge is too speed things up but I'm not sure thats always the best way to go.
If you do decide to take any supplements it's also a good idea to run things past your Dr - not all supplements are suitable or safe for everyone

You may need to visit your doctor for tests to check the functioning of your organs to rule out the possibility of damage. Other than that, I would recommend seeing a naturopath and/or a dietitian. They may be able to help boost your energy levels naturally.
Also, just out of curiosity, may I ask why you are against antidepressants?

Prescription for Nutrition Healing is a good reference book to drug-free remedies, written by James Balch, M.D. and Phyllis Balch, C.N.C. You should be able to find it in your local health food store. I have had my copy for well over 10 years and have gotten great use out of it.
