Two months sober coming up
Greetings all,
I'm new to this forum, but have been reading the posts for some time. Thought it time I join. I'm older (61), an alcoholic about to hit 60 days sober next Friday! I went through rehab and now see a private therapist every few weeks, attend group therapy as well as AA (as part of my recovery plan).
I also think this forum will be supportive & helpful and allow me to pay it forward if I can help simply by telling about my own personal struggle with alcohol.

Thanks for the warm welcome!
dragon12...about AA, I've only been to 3 meetings so far. I usually go once a week, because I have another group I attend weekly.
As for AA, the first visit is difficult, in that you don't know what to expect. But from my experience, the people there are as welcoming and non-judgmental as the ones on this forum. My therapist wants me to eventually get a sponsor. I need one, because I occasionally still have that bad little voice that says I need some vodka. AA here have a meeting every day of the week at noon, so if I'm having a bad day, I can always go to a meeting.
Eventually I hope to end the private therapy and will need AA meetings even more then. I would recommend any one who has had a drinking problem visit AA. There's different dynamics at different meetings, so if the first group you visit doesn't fit...try another one. While there IS a spiritual component, I choose to think of my "Higher Power" as the collective goodwill of the group and my own inner resolve. That's just how I choose to believe, and use meditation/prayer as well.
Anyway, give it a try!

Welcome Cara. I'm older too and spent my whole life using alcohol as a buffer against reality. A very foolish and damaging thing to do, but I never saw it that way at the time.
Congratulations on your 60 big days. We're happy you've joined the family.
