Cleo: If this goes on people will talk and I will have you confused with Elizabeth Taylor (delivered to Caesar in a rug). Or cf. Shakespeare's description:

"The barge she sat in, like a burnish'd throne,
Burn'd on the water. The poop was beaten gold;
Purple the sails, and so perfumed that
The winds were lovesick with them.

Or check out E. Taylor's triumphal entry into Rome, drawn by long lines of grunting slaves (all male, a metaphor for feminism?). But isn't it so that Cleo dumped Antony later on (just a male chauvinist loser?) and hi tailed it back to Alexandria (rowed by another bunch of grunting male galley slaves). Thank you. I'll stick to old movies and recordings of "Mammy!"

Cleopatra - love your spunk! And your spelling!

So much of this recovery thing is attitude and mindset. Positivity is a very good thing to have on your side.

Thank you so much for giving me a little boost this fine morning!

cold, wet and grey here, but sunny in my heart.

I love this place, because I can be totally honest about what I did when I was a disgrace, without being looked upon with disgust

Cleo: Yes, Billie Holliday is cool (there's a good movie portraying her sad addicted life). And, back to Al Jolson, what about:

Climb up on my knee Sonny Boy
Though you're only three Sonny Boy
You've no way of knowing
There's no way of showing
What you mean to me Sonny Boy.

When there are grey skies,
I don't mind the grey skies.
You make them blue Sonny Boy.
Friends may foresake me.
Let them all foresake me.
I still have you Sonny Boy.

cf. The Wodehouse "Jeeves" skit in which Bertie Wooster and Jeeves create a riot by excessive renditions of "Sonny Boy". There's a good video of this too.

Reason for me:
My main trigger has almost always the ride home from work. Something happens to my brain and all the bad memories and good intentions disappear. Then I find myself doing my own personal happy hour.
Yesterday I come to SR about five minutes before leaving work. It focused my mind so that the "drive home" trigger didn't work. That was big time. Really big time.

Actually it may be a way of communicating with that part of the brain which the AVRT folks talk about and letting it know that you're not going to fall for any of its tricks. Some people have recovery oriented CD's which they can play on the car radio on the way home.

I love this place because although we come from all walks of life and we all have our problems, we can also laugh at ourselves and have a bit of fun.xxx

Same here. I get so much from this place I can't keep pace with the giving part!

I love this place because every one of you give me hope. Even when one of us "fails" that you keep trying makes me think I can too.

I love this place because I can bare my soul!
*****

JUST FOR TODAY, I will live through this day only. I will not brood about yesterday or obsess about tomorrow. I will not set far-reaching goals or try to overcome all of my problems at once. I know that I can do something for 24 hours that would overwhelm me if I had to keep it up for a lifetime.
