Your family probably already knows. We're not as good at keeping a secret as we think we are. I'm the youngest of five kids too. 2 of us became alkies. Don't ask me why. Must be genetics. We all had the same moral upbringing.

I was a little different in that my older siblings had moved out of the house by the time I hit adolescence, so I grew up like an only child and never had to compromise. I got to travel the world with my parents, for which I am eternally grateful. Guess I am a bit of a spoiled brat. I live alone and it suits me fine. Not lonely at all.

Anyway Shandi, I'm glad you've made the first step in posting here. Suffering in silence is a crummy way to live. Just having the freedom to post and be yourself may not mean recovery, but at least you're not stewing in your own juices and don't have to deal with that horrible isolation of feeling that no one understands.

Believe me, we understand all too well. Take your shoes off, sit a spell.

The really good news for you, shandi, is that honesty is the cornerstone of getting well! Glad to have you here!

Lying and hiding sucks. It's easier for me to let people drift away from me if I'm honest. It's not really a real relationship if I'm not being honest. The true friends will stick with you. The rest are easy enough to let go. For me at least. Fair weather friends are just that. And we all know that storms happen.

My thanks go out to everyone on this forum who has helped me.

Dee for president! Those who've been there know that this is a life and death situation and we're all on this life raft together.

Hi Wolfram

We have a 'Class Of' thread for each new calendar month - it's a place to find support from those who are more or less at the same point of recovery.

We don't start the November thread until November, but why not join the October thread right now?
