Why do I keep doing this?

It's the same song and dance all of the time.

I overdose..."I'm never doing it again!"
get caught shoplifting... "I'm never doing it again!"
overdose again... "I'm never doing it again!"
Then I stay abstinent for a few days, then that voice in my head argues with me and I find myself doing it again..

I'm at the point where I don't even want to tell people that im going to get clean anymore because I've said it so many times and they have no reason to believe that this time will be any different.

My mom tells me im "different" from other addicts, that my extreme obsession of drugs separates me from the rest.. I feel so alone.

Tomorrow will be day 1 for me.

Hi, Jake ~ I'm sorry to hear about your troubles. My issue is with alcohol. I used to play the same mind games with myself in regards to drinking. It's no fun feeling defeated all the time.

All addicts are basically the same we just differ in extremity. What we do, what you're doing is self-sabotage.

Jake you are not alone. We have all tried many times to quit and have had many failings in it. I too with my alcoholism have tried to quit without telling anyone because of the embarrassment when I don't follow through. Personally speaking, if your mom doesn't know other addicts and if she has never suffered an addiction herself than those are just words said out of frustration. Let it pass. We're here for you. Everyday is a struggle but we can all get through this together. I have faith in you Jake.

I made countless resolutions to quit drinking/using and it never lasted until I joined a program of recovery.
