Situational stress
First of all, I'm sorry if I'm posting in the wrong forum. The one about anxiety and panic disorder seemed to be more about actual disorders rather than dealing with stress from specific a situation.
I don't suffer from anxiety and usually cope with stress very well, but I'm freaking out a little right now.
I have very big writing project to finish at the moment. No deadline as such, but there is a timeline for the next few months that was agreed on with the people I work with. The plan would be for me to be done by next week, which I think is pretty much impossible at this point...
And I just can't seem to be able to force myself to work. I freak out over all that still needs to be done, which causes me to waste all my time which causes me to freak out even worse.
Today is the third day in a row that I've done literally nothing whatsoever, and the past week has been practically nothing whatsoever. I know it's ridiculous and I know the only way to get stuff done is to do it, I just don't seem to be able to do so.
Have any of you been in a similar situation? If so, how did you deal with it?

Can you break it into smaller parts and write each one on an index card? Then just try to do one card, and throw it in a bowl when it's done. It may get easier once some of the cards are completed.
I afraid I never learnt any tips or tricks for making myself write, or finish writing something SG...
the only thing I know to do is the 'eating an elephant' approach...one bite at a time....I physically sit myself down and just make myself start.
If nothings working, I really recommend you let your colleagues know as far ahead of time as you can that you're having problems tho.
Sometimes they might have ideas to help, or suggestions on other ways to approach things

Why type of writing are you doing? If it is research, do you already have your notes and sources? For me there are a few things that help.
1. Make coffee
2. Get out of the house, go to a library or quiet room somewhere.
3. If noise is bothering you, get some earplugs (Walgreens and CVS should have them)
4. Get away from the internet. Try to go somewhere without the internet. It is such a distraction.
5. Just get something down, it doesn't matter if it is well written. It can be an outline, a paragraph, anything. You just may need something to work with.
