Need a sponsor

I am new to recovery and I am terrified of getting a sponsor because that means I have to be "all in" I have been an expert at manipulating my wife and family. I am so scared to walk over that threshold. I have meet a few folks after meetings but I am so afraid because in my mind it seems like such a commitment. Any thoughts on this would be very appreciated.

Hi and Welcome,

It does take a huge commitment to recover from alcoholism. I'm not in AA, but I work at recovery every day. I hope you find someone who will work well with you.

Sapling. It's time to be honest and you are spot on. Frankly your post hit me right in the gut and I thank you for that.

Hi mds1212 - welcome

I'm not sure there's a lot of people who are 'ready' not totally...

I think everyone had that feeling of trepidation when committing to recovery, in whatever form... it's a big step and there's a lot of fear involved...& that fear will try to convince us that maybe we don't really need to go to the next level anyway...

I'm pretty sure you have dreams of a better life...a life without these alcohol hassles...you know you need more or you wouldn't be here asking.

Its a leap of faith to totally commit...but I've never regretted it...and I have a life thats pretty close to that one I used to dream of.

I was good at manipulation and hiding too - too good for my own good.
It felt good to lay that burden down.

Why not at least give it a go..?

For what it's worth to you....There really isn't a whole lot left out there for your drinking...Hang it up while you still have a wife...Learn from my mistakes.
