Bored senseless!
I'm realizing now that just the anticipation of planned drinking in the evenings was something that really kept me going and excited during the day!!! Actually that was my addictive voice and now IT'S sooooo bored. Sorry....I'm not giving in to you! Go crawl under a rock. (In my 7th week)
Hi Bruno
We certainly have a lot more time to use. I've been going to the gym (and yoga classes), running, reasons, gardening and playing guitar. After 3-4 weeks I had lots of enthusiasm and energy for those things (i spent the first 2-3 weeks happily eating which was OK I think).

I think a lot of people who drink say it because they are bored. So your not alone I know that my husband seems bored constantly drinking not drinking. And yet he does nothing that most people do he just watches tv . He is bored with the everyday things that most people do. He blames me for his misery. Right now he is being so belligerent he is telling me from the other room to go die and I'm a loser. I give you credit that your at least trying to quit even if it isn't easy.

so honest, i love it. i know the boredom very well. it's the most normal thing in the world. i try HARD to fill my time. this probably seems insane but i'll even clean like a maniac just to do something else. i recently heard about that acronym that we're supposed to think of when our minds turn to drinking or using, HALT (hungry, angry, lonely or tired) and I though it should be BHALT to include bored. i don't know if you're a reader but reading has always really helped me to escape my mind. i learned that i can't think and read at the same time. even if it's just a silly magazine its a decent distraction.
[QUOTE=Sapling;3424288]Maybe I'm different...I didn't have a problem with boredom..
no different than me. i didnt want to sit around. there was always something to do.
bruno, i am willing to bet iffen ya get off yer arse and look around, you got a lot that you can do. and iffen there aint nothing to do around yer place, you can go help someone who can use it. you will find hobbies as time passes and they are important, not just in recovery, but in life.
there are character defects/shortcomings behind boredom and some are selfish, self centeredness, and laziness. there is a solution for it too.

It's definitely normal, but the good news is that it's also temporary. When I was drinking, alcohol was my source of entertainment - I didn't care that much about developing my interests or growing as a person.
I think we feel bored at first, not because life is boring, but because we're really seeing how little we invested in ourselves/life. Give it time and I bet you'll start seeing things differently (I'm never bored these days!).
