First day sober, first post...
I've been trying on and off for about two months now to start the process of recovery, but I keep falling off the wagon after only a few days. I tried going to an AA meeting, but it was kind of... scary, I guess, there was a lot of cursing and yelling. I just want some quiet support and to share the stories of other's recovery, and I am hoping here is a good place to start out.
welcome to SR inspireme
I'm not an expert but that doesn't sound like any meeting I've heard of & not one I'd want to be part of...did you try any others?
I know you'll find a lot of support here

I'm new too. I don't like to be around people so I have to start this at home until I can work up to that. I've found alot of information here so far and blogging my thoughts helps keep me on track. I also looked up 12 step worksheets and have been working those on my own. Congrats on day 1!!!!

Here is a good site for both of you to look at.
Your First AA Meeting<
That meeting you went to isn't normal...Try some different meetings till you find one they are talking about the solution...The 12 steps...Recovery. If I walked into a meeting where everyone was cursing and yelling I'd leave too...I haven't seen that yet.

Welcome to SR!
read the book Alcoholics Anonymous, it's online and online in an audio version. do a search on AA Speakers or AA Speaker Tapes. Take a listen to some, they are recorded meetings and big book (AA book) studies. See if you can relate to anything. Other programs are also available.
Glad you are here!

Welcome roseblossem and inspireme.
I agree with Dee. . .this doesn't sound like a meeting that would be supportive of recovery. It is my understanding that different AA meetings have different flavors. I suggest trying another if possible, one that is more palatable.
Also, rely on this forum in between meetings. It is an incredible source of strength with a lot of whip smart people. :-)

Hi Rose & Inspire, congrads on getting started~~
Coming clean, like the avitar. I so remember that.
I don't have any words this morning that are inspiring or profound. This picture below however just blows me away, says to me how much I have and speaks about duty and persistance and the human spirit. See you on the boards~~~!

Life's getting better for me today. That's because I turned to this forum a couple of days ago after nearly destroying everything. This forum inspires me. Hope it can help you too.

Thank you, everyone, for your kind thoughts. I think I am still a little shell shocked from that first meeting, so I am going to explore the message boards for a bit and find some inspiration! Tonight I will keep myself occupied planting some tomatoes for my deck, and try to enjoy the sunshine.
Welcome! I'm only on Day 4, but I'm already finding these boards to be hugely helpful. I come on here just to read several times a day, sometimes posting, sometimes just reading other people's posts. Right now this sobriety thing isn't easy, but it sure does help being reminded over and over again that it gets better.

Yes, real life often shell shocks me as well. You will get used to it.
All the best.
