Following in Instant's Footsteps.... ;)
Thank you to everyone for your kind words!
I've spent 25 years in and out of AA. I have spent many hours in meetings. I have fought the steps until last year, so maybe I do know something about AA and how it works....
CaiHong,
The second time through the steps I hesitated on one of the steps (9) and I ran into a woman with many years of continuous sobriety and I let her know what I "wasn't" doing....her response was this, "I like to sit in pain, too."
That got to me. I was holding onto pain by not completing that step.
How insane is that? I am working a program of recovery, but I wasn't. If I hadn't followed through with that step, I might have picked up a drink. That isn't what I wanted. I also didn't want to continue to sit in that pain, which I wasn't acknowledging.
That woman helped me so much! Don't stop on ANY step. I have seen people "not get it" and get drunk again, only to find out how difficult it was to stay stopped again.
Just do it! You will know a new freedom and a new peace, you will not regret the past nor will you wish to shut the door on it. Read the first 164 pages again, there's lots of information there and complete those steps, at least once. The next time, too.
Peace & love,
