I will just add a big fat ditto to everything said here.

I suffer debilitating anxiety and panic attacks after drinking. This just really started in the last two years. So not worth it. At all.

Of course alcohol relieves stress. Geesh....

Alcohol was the solution to my alcoholism.

OK so on balance this study has shown that alcohol is not a recommended treatment for "stress"

LOL

I used to tell myself alcohol was helping me cope with stress but I don't think it ever did- usuallu distracted me from stress so that when I'd get sober the next day I'd distract myself all over again that night either with booze or tablets.

Nowadays, I've learnt to separate my fears from my worries, so instead of fear causing friction and then STRESS!!!!, I am able to see that things are in perspective and that equals less stress for me.

Luv, Love.

A lot of interesting perspectives here! I see it here already but I will add my thoughts. Alcohol did not relieve stress, it only created the illusion that it did. It was a diversionary tactic that allowed me to forget my current responsibilities while all the while creating an entirely new set of things to be stressed about - my health, my mental state, having to clean up (or avoid entirely) all the messes I created while binge drinking (damaged relationships, bad choices, diminished self-esteem.) Not good.
