Not the strong one now

40years drinking have caught up with me. Tried cutting down 100s of times. Drinking no longer fun it just makes me feel better. It only took 18 hours for the night sweats and vomiting, and the other side effects to kick in, now what did you do.

Thanks

First, sending love and faith in your recovery!

With your response, please go get help immediately with a Dr.

I can relate to wanting to be or needing to be the strong one. But now is the time to put down your sword and ask for assistance. Even the best leader needs a team to support them to win the battle! :-)

You deserve to get support through this withdrawal period and after so many years and amounts, need support.

The first week is the hardest, you are in withdrawal. I suggest a dr , pills for detox may help.

It is worth it and it is doable. We only have to get it right once

I can totaly relate, too. I drank to feel normal, also. For many years.

Get yourself to a doctor, withdrawal is nothing to mess with.

Believe it or not, you can quit. Millions have. You're not unique. Heck, I was the same as you.

Best to you, and keep us posted.

Detoxing safely is very important....What you do after it is more important. Find some kind of program of recovery and give it all you got.

Geno you are not alone. We all understand how you're feeling. Once this phase is over, you'll begin to feel calmer and more hopeful. I agree with the others about getting checked out by a doctor to be safe.

I'm older too, and the last few years of my drinking career almost killed me. I have no idea why I kept insisting it was fun or relaxing. It was hell. I couldn't recuperate from my binges the way I used to - I had no control at all. I was on my way out, until I found SR. Not feeling alone made all the difference. We're all behind you - you can do this Geno.

Good luck with your sobriety.
I'm planning to stop drinking on Monday. (again)
Like many here, I've quit before and relapsed. Hopefully this time it will stick.
I didn't have too many problems physically when I've quit before, and hopefully I can endure it one more time. I don't have insurance that will cover a doc, but if I did, I would use it.

Hi Geno

I also recommend seeing a Dr if you're ill or concerned about your health.

You'll also find a loye of support and ideas here - life does not end when we quit drinking - I really feel like I was reborn...there was a me, a me I used to be that I'd lost somewhere in 20 years drinking...I didn't even realise he had gone...but it was great to get him back

welcome to SR

I think you are that strong...but I understand convincing yourself you're not.

I did that for a lot of years too....eventually I had no choice but to quit.
I found I was a lot stronger than I thought I was when I wanted and needed to be

Giving up is a scary propspect I know ...just don't put it off too long Tryer - it gets harder and scarier.

Wouldn't that be a trip if you could manage to go there and not drink?...What a way to start that would be.
