5 months sober today
27 used to be fairly young to get sober, but in my area it's common, lots are younger, lots are older. An older practicing alcoholic may have lots more health problems. As with any disease, early detection and treatment is best.
I sobered up at 33. I'm 56 now. Keep going, glad life's good.
well congratulations my good friend! keep up the good job! Well it looks like you and are are around the same age too! I turned 27 however back in November 1st 2011. So I know how it feels to be a young alcoholic whose staying sober. I was 3 months sober when I had my birthday. There were no cravings because I was with my family and went out for dinner. No thoughts on wanting to drinking were around. I've been sober 7 months now. And this is the first time in a long time have I been sober this long myself. I once was sober 9 months and as time went on my sober time decreased. But now I have a strong feeling I'll stay sober for one day at a time. I'm also seeing someone so she gives me added support to not pick up because I don't want her to ever see me when I'm drunk because it's totally not me. Good luck and keep at it man because it's worth it!
I turned 27 on your sobriety date (10/12/11) and got smashed at an all-you-can-drink of saki/beer (and eat sushi) with friends. I was a drunken mess that night. I am so happy to be sober now. Congrats on 5 months! I look forward to getting there!
Congratulations!
As far as the age thing I'm only a couple months younger than you, my 27th bday is in May. I got sober last year in April.
I thought I was pretty young, but some of the meetings I've been to have quite a number of young people, in fact at one I'd say the average age was probably 18 or 19 -- I felt like the elder statesmen that night
Anyways, congrats on 5 months. That is a great accomplishment.

Awesome Wookie!! I'm always so impressed when 20-somethings decide to get sober. It took me a little longer......okay it took me a LOT longer....but I'm here now, 13 months and 11 days sober and not looking back. Keep up the fantastic job!
