Earl H.... one of the funnier speakers I've heard. He's also got a gift for talking about fear, coping with life, alcohol and drug addiction........and recovery from all of it. His story is frickin' awesome....and you'll, I promise, get some good laughs.

I just listened to the whole tape. What an excellent speaker. When I saw it was an hour long I was thinking no way can I listen that long, but then...I could not stop listening right to the end.

I connected with what he was saying in so many ways. Thank-you for sharing this comic(as he portrays), yet deadly serious journey of a man who made it to the other side and found peace.

He's actually just a former drunk / drug addict, a therapist (not sure if he still is but he was for many years) and happens to have a knack for public speaking......plus a pretty good sense of humor.

His part at the end about how being a newcomer at an AA meeting vs being a member with some experience at that same meeting gets me rolling every time I hear it.

Thanks Daytrader,

An extremely powerful speaker. I found his story amazing, the fact that he had been to places where there was no hope and was able to recover is nothing less than a miracle .

I so appreciate people taking the time to post links that could be of interest.

It is a good note to start the day on, even though I delayed an early start and will get the next bus. I couldn't,t leave without listening to the end of the tape.

It sounds like at least a couple of you all like these being posted down here in the Newcomers section rather than just in the 12-step section where I've traditionally put them.....

If there are more of you who like these talks and want me to keep putting them up here, let me know......and I'll keep posting them. I've probably got another hundred or more that I think are the best of the best...

Yes!!!!!! Please. I haven't listened to the whole talk yet but I'm really looking forward to it. That site looks like a really fantastic resource. I'm so glad I looked at this thread.

Why not make one thread in Newcomer's called 'Open Talks' and just keep adding to the list? Could make for a sticky if it gathers steam.

I love Dr. Paul O. He is definitely hilarious, too! He is the person who's story "Acceptance Was The Answer" 4th Edition of the book Alcoholics Anonymous (formally "Doctor, Alcoholic,Addict" in the 3rd Edition) is always referred to when discussing "acceptance" (page 449 in the 3rd edition, page 417 in the 4th edition). He passed in 2000 during a heart operation.

That would be my sponsor. LOL Just Kidding! My sponsor continues to take regular inventories after 26 years and believes a lot of Bill W.'s depression could have been eliminated if Bill did more personal inventories! Had to add this.

Bill W's depression. This calls for another thread. Will get to it later.

I can't bring myself to "download" anything (I've been burned too many times ) but I search youtube and did catch a little bit of one of his talks in LA in 2002. He's quite articulate and funny!

Man oh man...there are so many...
Bob Olsen
Don Pritz
Bob Darrall
Mark Houston
Joe Hawk
Myers and Chris Raymer
(most of those guys are in the same line of sponsorship or have been in the same line......)

A couple talks kinda come to mind but I can't put a voice with the words....in my head. If it hits me, I'll let ya know.

I'm thinking Myers, Chris, Mark and Joe are the one's who mention it the most and I can think of one talk of Mark's where he points out the page # where it says "a business that takes no regular inventory eventually goes broke" in the leadup to the 4th step instructions (or however the exact quote is....).

Look for the mark h and Dave f step talks. Shouldn't be too tough to find the fourth step part... I'm not positive it comes up in that series but relatively sure....
