I lost my wallet drunk. I panicked ran to the bank, and cancelled my debit card. Dmned thing was laying on the dash!
Lost a cell phone, bought a new one, then found it under my recliner cushion!
Lost my custom winter coat I had made while serving in Korea. I got drunk and left it on a bar stool.
Lost my physical strength.
Lost a lot of time I can never get back.

Things I lost...

self-respect and dignity
ambition
desire to improve myself
friends
purse, wallet, money, shoes, and coat

memory (BLACKOUTS!!)

car (I can't tell you how many times I woke up and had no idea where my car was. Literally, looking out the window and wondering where the heck I parked it. Or maybe I left it at the bar and got a ride home.)

I'm so happy I don't have live like that anymore.

Good Reminder for All of Us everywhere.

Kinda Ironic unless I just didn't see it...

I don't believe that anyone said that they had lost All Hope! So that speaks of the Miracle beyond Human Capacities.

Wow what a great thread! I've lost my license b/c of a DUI, my dignity, my better judgment, more than a few relationships and friendships, healthy self-image and pride, and the ability to keep my word.
I'm grateful for each and every day of recovery.

...More than I care to admit. But what hurt the most was the respect my friends and family lost for me and the relationships & friendships I basically threw away.

Ugh, ugly just thinking about it.

1) My self respect
2) Material items: car, purse, coat, too many to count
3) Money, lots of it
4) The ability to care for my dog who is now being taken care of elsewhere
5) Opportunity for a personal life with marriage, kids, house
6) Numerous relationships
7) Sunshine, joy, love
8) Time with my family
9) A future; only lived day by day just to get by
10) Introspective, empathy, feelings, trust

I am too embarressed to list all I lost, material and inmaterial. God is good and many things have been redeemed, or replaced.

I can relate to just about everything on this list though. I also left my keys hanging in my door more than once and am thankful nobody came in my apt, or stole my car.

We've lost so much but hopefully many
have regain it back plus more in recovery.

I was sitting outside this morning thinking
about this topic and the replies recieved
and forgot to add something to my own list.

Back in Feb. 1990 when returning home from
a local club at 2 in the morning, less than a
mile away from my little home and family, I
ran off the road hitting a concrete culvert sitting
on top the ground.

I was taken to the hospital via that EMS truck
and dont even remember the ride. I was soooo
messed up with numerous broken ribes, bones,
contusions, lacerations and removeral of a vital
organ......

My Spleen.

How could I forget that.

Well, im glad I don't get sick very often because
if im not mistaken, the spleen is important in the
recovery process so that my ailments would heal
quickly.

Remembering that we have only one body, one mind,
one soul and its up to us to respect it and take care
of it because once it expires then that's permanent.

Right?

Lost college; almost burned the house when I feel "asleep" with a cigarette; lost my freedom (to many times in psych wards and once in jail); confidence; failed relationships and no friends, but most of all have lost my mind, literally it took me 15 minutes to write this, can't seem to concentrate from to much worrying.

But, I know better days will surely come my way, I mean I have been only 1 month clean and this time by my choice.

(((Sharon)) - I remember your details about your accident. Yes, your spleen is pretty important, but a good thing is that many people live successfully without one - they just don't abuse their bodies with alcohol/drugs

Hugs and prayers,

Amy

Thank you Amy. We surely put our bodies
thru so much abuse when we drink or use,
especially in our younger years. Well, maybe
all ages. We don't have to be in our teens,
20's, 30's to do so much damage to our bodies,
but can be all ages to the day we die.

Today, we can live life to the fullest in a healthier
way by not putting poisons in our bodies to destroy
our minds and bodies. We can now be aware of what
we have and the cost of what we can lose if we make
a decision to drink or use.

If you think 50 is old, believe me im not....lol

Im so full of life looking to go to Sturgis for the
second time, celebrating 3 yrs marriage Valentines
Day and a new tattoo.

I stopped growing emotionally when i began drinking
at 18 and stopped at 30. So my emotional life began
when I stopped drinking.

So what ever emotional time you lost when drinking
is added back to you when you become sober.

So for me at age 50ish, Im still a young chick....
