Hmm, banging our heads against the NHS...sounds familiar...I couldn't get counselling because I admitted to alcohol abuse and the current method is to try to get people to cut back (not that good for alcoholics doing it by themselves and I didn't manage it, though my state of mind wasn't good at the time), though when I first asked about it it was a detox centre (I had a friend who went through this in my area and his experience scared me off that!). Have you been able to get counselling yet? Before I ever mentioned an alcohol problem my doctor told me I had to have suicidal thoughts before I could get a referral but while waiting I moved and my new doctor never mentioned it... I think the ways of dealing with it are different in different areas (I'm in a fairly deprived north west area) and hopefully it will get easier for people asking for help but it can be a bit of a battle x
