This time last year

This time last year I was shopping for Christmas presents drunk. This time last year I was fretting about how I was going pay my bills, buy christmas presents, and booze. This time last year I was hung over every morning.
Last Thanksgiving I worked and came home to cook dinner. Dinner turned out real good and I was sober, but the shakes were so bad I had to hide in the bathroom as not to alarm my daughters. This time last year I was in a fight with my boyfriend. One foot out the door because I was sneaking booze again. This holiday I am sober. This time this year I can hold my head up high knowing I have had 4 solid months of sobriety. I told my daughter that all I wanted for christmas was for her and her sister to forgive for being a horrible mother and a drunk. She said "mom, I have already forgiven you". Made me cry. Best present ever! Merry Christmas to me!

I don't know how I got through my last "drunk" Christmas ... Last year was my first sober one. I felt so happy with myself at that point .. and I am sure the whole house felt more relaxed and much happier in general. I have two girls too .. being a sober, regular, available mom to them is the best feeling, and I know it's creating good memories that are slowly by surely overtaking any not-so-good ones. Sobriety rocks.

This is just amazing to read. It hits home with me because last week I WAS shopping drunkenly for my baby girl's first Christmas decorations (stockings, etc.). I am so happy I won't have to go through her first Christmas drunk and forget half of what happened. Thank you for your post and congrats, happy holidays indeed!

Well done Soberred. You've done brilliantly.
Christmas for me was fine last year and I managed to stay sober so as not to spoil the occasion but on New Year's Day I ended up in accident and emergency after a fight. Sad, but it won't happen again.

Congrats on you success. I am also looking forward to my first sober Thanksgiving. Last year, I started with shots at 8am and by the big meal time, I was so nauseated and on the verge of black out. I ate a few bites and had to feign the flu. I hope it will be different this year.
