Well...I am an open book girl...that's just me. Sometimes when I'm feeling spicy (um, that's most of the time) I will say things like, "My body is a temple. I don't put alcohol in it. I mean c'mon...look at me....why would I spoil this?" LOL I'm not known for my verbal restraint. Also had exchanges like this:
Them: would you like a drink?
Me: no, thanks, I don't drink alcohol.
Them: Never?
Me: Nope, never.
Them: Like...never, ever??
Me: nope, never.
Them: EVER?
Me: nope
Them: Like...not even on New Years Eve?
Me: nope, not even then.
Them: Wow, what do you do then?
hahaaaa, by this time I'm laughing pretty hard. What does that say about "them"?

Oh and last night when I went to the my friends bday at a bar I told anyone who asked why I wasn't drinking that I was a pregnant alcoholic (not pregnant) and every single person laughed their head off and changed the topic
"no thanks". honestly, i don't spend a lot of time around people who would press the issue, and I'm glad about that. I guess if someone asked I'd just say "I just don't like drinking".
Anyone close enough to me to know how rare it is for me to turn down a drink are close enough to me that I don't mind sharing why I stopped (it's not surprising anyway, it was a pretty open secret I had a drinking problem).

My routine for "parties"
Pre party check- do I really want to go? if so
Don't get their first- make sure you arrive so the host will already be busy
Get something into your hand ASAP
Decline the drink as above
Immediately open up another topic of conversation.
Make sure I can get home independently at a time of my choice
I have found the person who has worried about this issue most is ME, and the occasional readily identifiable drunk

I actually take pride in rejecting alcoholic drinks at parties.
I do not feel less of a person when I am sober.
On the contrary, I like to think sobriety makes me the stronger one, the one who is confident enough to spend the night clinging to a glass of Diet Coke, the one who does not need to alter reality in order to have a good time.
