13 days in...
Hey guys,
I'm pretty new to this forum. I'm 13 days in, which is probably the longest I've gone without a drink since I was in my twenties. I celebrated my 38th birthday on Tuesday...SOBER! Last night was the first where I wasn't plagued by night sweats. The night muscle spasms went away a few days ago. Those were the worst. Detoxing in general sucked, but I know that's to be expected. It's been a crazy few weeks with lots of temptations everywhere, but I carried on...drank tea, reminded myself why I'm charting these waters.
I just wanted to reach out and introduce myself. Reading various threads has been enormously helpful and inspiring.

Thanks! I'm not involved with any support groups yet. But I've got tons of support from my family and friends...especially my mom and my husband. I've been able to open up completely to several loved ones, and they really have my back. Not sure if I'll go the AA route. Honestly, things have been and continue to be so crazy busy and that helps a lot. I'm feeling clear and open and strong...and this forum feels really supportive and cozy to me. I feel that tickle, the beast calling sometimes tho, of course...

I like your use of the word 'beast' when talking about your urge to drink. Check out this thread for lots of discussion about how some of us deal with the voices we hear urging us to use.

Congratulations on your great achievement, you should be proud of yourself.

Welcome kcvalentine -
Congratulations on celebrating your birthday sober.... What a great gift to give yourself!
It took quite a while for the urges to fade - sometimes they would pop up out of nowhere. I just got on my laptop and came here until I felt stable again. I couldn't imagine a life without alcohol..... now I can't imagine going back.
Good to have you here!
