Giving medical advice, for example recommending a detox based on drinking history, is strictly verboten around here. There is never anything wrong about consulting a professional when it is your health at stake.
Kudos to you for getting this big ball rolling.

It's very true...
Thanks for all the responses- question- have gone to Dr- getting an appt with specialist- may take another week. I am a very heavy drinker (8-10 every night) that has stopped drinking last couple of days. Someone said that I should not do this because it can put my body into distress. Is this true?
Are you experiencing withdrawal symptoms? Night sweats, trembling hands, etc?
You said you just stopped. How many days? How do you feel? Seek medical help if you feel ill.
Try a search: aa city state
Get to meetings so you aren't alone. Go to several and listen with an open mind!
You have support here.
If you're still drinking, you can reduce the amount & drink slower until you get to your doctor. There's always a solution.

llc...have you considered rehab perhaps? Or if not, definitely get in to see your doctor. Take a deep breath and like I tell myself...a new day is here and never too late. Keep coming back here for reassurance.
Hi llc -
"Simple," but not always "easy"........ It does get easier, though. It's a big change, so be patient with yourself.
You said you've been been sober for a couple days - that's great! It could be that you'll be fine, but since you already have the connection with your doctor, it wouldn't hurt to call. Just be totally honest about how much you drink (hard to do, I know) and tell him/her you're concerned about withdrawal. There are lots of things (drinking history, age, blood pressure, overall health) that can make a difference when we stop drinking, so it's just better to be cautious.
