Yes, it is essential to have something to work towards, you just reminded me. I have been toying with the idea of taking time off work and spending a week in a health retreat. I look it as a reward for staying sober and an investment in my health.
When I was drinking I would never take time off from work for myself, I now see it as my first priority. I really need some sea and sand.
I too am from Australia but have been living and working OS for 10 years.
