Hi,
I'm a newcomer, haven't tried to quit yet.
I am curious about your experience and what to expect. I've read many postings where they've felt fine after 3 days and others where the first 3 days were the worst days of their lives.
I know everyone is different and will probably have different experiences but still want to ask, so here we go!
1. How many drinks did you have and how often?
2. What did you drink?
3. For how long?
4. Was there any abnormality in blood tests, etc?
5. Did you wean, go cold turkey on your own or go to a detox specialist?
6. How did you feel the 1st day, on day 3, and after 1 month?
7. What was the toughest symptom to deal with? Anxiety, sleeplessness, fatigue, vomiting?
8. Could you go to work while in the process of quitting? If yes, after how many days?
Thank you.

I am a woman and at the end of my drinking I was drinking two 30/packs of beer and a fifth of 100 proof liquor each afternoon/evening. Many times that was not enough to last an evening.
Answered above.
I drank from the age of 15 to 35. I started drinking heavy at the age of 21 (Got a DUI that year). For the last 8 to 10 years of my drinking it was out of control.
My triglycerides were well over 800. My cholesterol was terrible. My liver enzymes were elevated. I had bouts of pancreatitis. This was typical for the last 10 years of my drinking. I don't know exactly what the results would have been in the last 5 years of my drinking as I would not see a doctor during that time for a regular checkup.
I went cold turkey but would not recommend it to anyone. I had not clue that there were such things as detox or recovery centers.
I can not remember specifics I just know for about the first 90 days I pretty much felt cruddy most of the time. The fog started clearing more then and it did get easier.
All of the above.
I worked full time during it all.

golfit - welcome to the forum.... If you read the thread Anna posted, you'll probably see that people's experiences are all over the board. So really, no one can predict what kind of withdrawal you might have.
It's scary to think about talking to a doctor, I know..... but that's what they're there for.
I never thought I'd say this, but life is a lot better without alcohol....

Hi golfit,
I am a 43 year old women and drank almost daily except while pregnant or nursing my babies. I drank between 3-4 drinks for about 15 years a night, then after my dad died It begin to creep up to 4-5 drinks a night.
I have six weeks sober and decided to see my doctor and be honest with him and he gave me xanax for three days while I detoxed. The last three times i quit I had anxiety attacks and I was unwilling to go through that again.
I did it at home and although I did not drink as much as some, I still experienced fatigue, mood swings, anxiety, food and sugar cravings(still do), depression, and sleep disturbances.
Hope this helps
