It's nice to pop in here to SR
and visit with new members.

Many of you may see familiar
names regularly that have been
around a long time.

SR has been an awesome place
to continue my AA practice each
day I stay sober.

I remember when I was hauled
into rehab in the back of a
police car that Aug. day. Pissed
off at my family for calling the
authorities because I wasnt
willing enough get help I so
needed.

I spent the first night in the
physic ward scared to death
eyes wide open to other patiants
shuffling across the floor or
hugging the wall.

I surely wasnt like them i quietly
thought to myself. The next day
I passed all the mental and
physical test they threw at me
and ended up on the 2nd floor
with patiants dealing with alcohol
and drug addictions.

After a 28 day stay, I heard some-
one say, "you will not stay sober."

Oh how i wanted to prove them
wrong so I wouldnt have to go
to a halfway house out of state
away from my 2 babies.

I left still holding lots of resent-
ments, but was still determined
to do whatever it took to stay
sober. And I did.

That included outpatiant aftercare
for 6 weeks going when I didnt feel
like it. Many times faking it till
I made it as we often hear.

I went to AA meetings even taking
my littliest one with me before
she started school. I baked goodies
for all my meetings as service
work. I called my sponsor when
I was aggrivated or restless,
irritable or discontent.

Just repeating the same thing
day in and day out till recovery
began to make sense to me.

In time it did and today I understand
the importance of having a
solid foundation in recovery
as I see and hear first hand
how drugs and alcohol are
still kicking butt big time
out in the world.

Im glad to know I have a
safe haven to go to when
the world is hectic and ever
changing. AA allows me to
accept life on lifes terms and
that makes living easier.

The fellowship in recovery
is an awesome network of
people just like me with similar
situations so if I need help
or dont understand something,
all I have to do is ask for help
and I'll never have to feel
alone .

Thanks SR for being here for
me.
