Halt
Great show, I used to drink and watch Intervention weekly, looking to see how I matched up with the person on the show. I watched them intervene on some drinkers that I didn't think were half as bad as me, then I saw other episodes that were just truly outrageous. Sometimes it would make me want to quit, other times it made me want to drink more.
I think being mindful of the HALT acronym can be a great tool - don't be afraid to mix it up a little though and find your own 'recipe'.
I know Carol adds and S to hers for sad, I add a P to mine for pain...
PSHALT...sounds kinda biblical

Chakra and HReady, in the newcomers daily section there is a thread for people with under two weeks sober. Its a nce resource because you can talk to people who are in the same stage as you. I made a lot of "friends" there:-)
I got HALT-ed yesterday for sure. Went to a family gathering, some of which I don't get along with so well, felt uncomfortable so I didn't eat much. On the way home a big sheet of plastic wrap flew out of a truck, no time to swerve, ran over it- got stuck all over the hot exhaust system. Got home, put my watch in my pocket so I wldnt scatch it, and scraped as much of the plastic off as I could. Stuck my hand in pocket to get house keys/watch, remembered I had put a few snack sized Hershey bars in there at the gathering. My BlackBerry, watch, house keys, cigs/lighter, pocket change and my hand of course were covered in melted Hersheys chocalate. Didn't drink though, pigged out and went to bed. (after cleaning up the chocolate disaster.)

Yes....Dee is correct ....
I added a S...for sad.......HALTS......as depression
was a huge part of my drinking history.
Each time I returned to drinking
at least 2 of those elements were in place.
Being vigilant about HALTS saved my sobriety many times.

How about PSHALTAX?
p=pain
s=sad
h=hungry
a=angry
l=lonely
t=tired
ax=anxious
Good idea to make your own versions of HALT because everyone has different triggers. THanks Dee and Carol.
So I am happy to say that today is 20 (if I make it through, which I am feeling pretty confident about at least right now)
