Mistakes I have made

I am slowly coming to realise that one of the reasons that I have failed to quit in the past is that I was quitting for the wrong reasons.Quitting for my wife quitting because my church frowns on it quitting because the bible condems drunkeness.I especialy would look to far into the future without a drink. Not this time I am not selfish but this time I am quitting for me I want an alcohol free life I want to enjoy it I mean something and deserve better and gosh darn it I am a good person a nice man and a good husband and father and I am taking my life back one day at a time. With gods grace and the help of my savior Jesus.Thank you all at SR this site has realy been a Godsend for me.............................jo

Hi Jo,

Good for you!

And, remember that alcoholism is a disease, not a character defect. It's hard to not be down on yourself as you try to begin recovery, but try to forgive yourself.

Awesome to read your post joleah. I have also quit in the past several times for the wrong reasons. I think that unless you take the desire to quit to a new personal level, it will not be successful. Quitting for you is not selfish, it is the ultimate unselfish act. By taking care of yourself, you will be open to letting others take care of you as well, allowing a whole new level of love into your life.

Good for you. You might want to give AA a try (it's a great spiritual program). I'm now sober almost 6 months and I feel confidant I'll be able to stay sober forever, but doing it one day at a time.
