My first AA meeting!!!
My first AA meeting!!!
I went to an open "beginners" meeting last night. All I can say is how comfortable I felt!!!
After the meeting, two women came up to me & introduced themselves, gave me the low down, schedule and their phone #'s..... how awsome!
Talking to a friend or spouse about how/what your feeling does not compare with talking with someone who has walked in your shoes. I plan on attending many more!!
Thanks!

That is great. I am assuming you are female. If so, stick with the other ladies in your recovery and get a female sponsor. This is not to say a male wont share something that you really relate to and find helpful, but the hazards of working with the opposite sex are well known. JMHO.
Congrats! I'm glad you had an enjoyable experience. I know there are those who say AA is not for them, but it has helped me tremendously. I've found the beginner meetings to be great. In fact, I'm heading to a Newcomer meeting at noon today! And you're right; while our significant others and family and friends may want the best for us in our recovery, it's very difficult to share certain things with them because they may not understand the insane workings of the alcoholic mind. I think it's crucial to speak and share with people who have similar experiences. I mean, if I were trying to build a boat, I'd probably want to speak with someone who has done it before and knows what it entails, right? 'Cause if I've never built a boat, and neither have my friends or family, how the heck are we going to know how to do it? Sure, we can read a book and look at illustrations, but experience really is the best teacher.
Dgillz - yes female. Both of the women were very nice & explained the same thing - stick to another woman as a sponser. I was amazed at the diversity of the people there. From age 22 to 72. I can't wait for another one!!

Ive seen my fair share of disasters...
but some women find it difficult to find a suitable female sponsor.
i have worked with ladies before.....without problems..
i dont see a female......i see a suffering alcoholic.
