I'm a 55 year woman, I've been drunk for the past 2 weeks. I would like to stop but I don't know how to.

Hi Fen

You've come to one of the very best places on the web for support

Have you tried any recovery programmes? Many of our members use them and will be along to share their experience...

if SR is your first port of call...I always suggest seeing a doctor, as detox can sometimes occasionally (not always) be tricky.

Try to focus on not drinking just for today - and then let each day built up like that, if you can.

Please read around and post as much as you like.

Welcome!
D

Hi Fen,

I'm glad you found us.

You can stop drinking by simply stopping. Get rid of the alcohol in your house. Please know that detoxing from alcohol can be dangerous, so check with your dr before you stop the alcohol.

Fen3,
I have stopped drinking and I have stayed stopped through the program and fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous. I would suggest you look up AA in the phone book or on line, find a meeting and go. It is a good idea to consult your doctor as you may need medical assistance in detoxing from alcohol. Welcome to SR. This is a great website.

Glad to have you with us. The best things I did to get my recovery stared was joining here & going to AA & working the program of Alcoholics Anonymous.

Here are some meetings in your area.

Welcome to the family of SR! :ghug3 I agree with just not drinking 'for today' and you'll be surprised how fast onedayatatime goes by. And please do see your doctor for a safe and more comfortable withdrawal from the alcohol.

WELCOME!!! I hope you keep posting and reading. Coming here is a good start. I don't think I would be sober right now without this place. I knew I was an alcoholic when I realized I couldn't stop on my own either. I guess that's why it's called Addiction. We do it even when we don't want to.

It's not easy admitting defeat, but it's the best thing I ever did. I'm glad you had the courage to ask for help.

Haven't had a drink for 14 hours. Feeling a little shaky but otherwise ok.

I'm on day six, and each day has been easier so far than the day before. The shakes are less; the cravings are less. Take heart.

Hello, I'm 54, I've been trying to cut down and/or quit for years. Now all I want is to quit, moderation is impossible for me. I came here a while back and I've discovered that this place is good for me. Welcome, I hope you'll like it here too

Welcome to SR!!! There is so much support here and tons of information and stories to be read.

Toss the booze and reach out to your Dr. I personally just quit. Woke up almost 1/2 dead after a nightmarish week of panic/anxiety and a few day bender mixed with pain meds I was on for an injury. Yeah....I had nothing to lose. I tossed that booze down the drain and called my Dr. once his office opened.

Take it one day at time and know that you must have a program of recovery in place so read the posts and check out local AA meetings, counseling, etc.

All the Best!!

43 hours and counting!

Thank you again for your kind words of support and encouragement.

Not so shaky any more although limbs are a little tingly. Feeling much better.

Looking forward to counting days instead of hours...

Good work Fen3!

What are your plans for recovery? There are many ways to go about it. Try sharing here and you'll receive a lot of support and advice. I'm an AA'er and it's done wonders for me and my family and friends (they like me better now)

Welcome Fen. I sure hope you have someone nearby that can keep an eye on you and as was suggested seeing a doctor would be a great start too.
