Remembering what is true . . . the little voice lies
I actually truely believed that I could not pay attention or enjoy a football game without drinking beer... isn't that ridiculous? I have said to myself that I can't enjoy a party without beer... I have said I can't enjoy a wedding without drinking...
the issue? now that i've concluded that if i drink i WILL drink too much, i don't always care that i don't need to drink in order to have fun.
8 days sober, first AA meeting tonight (), and i have to keep reminding myself not to think down the road to the next occasion with friends where it would be fun to drink . . . not in order to make the occasion fun, but just because the drinking itself was fun.

Hi there, and yup. Remember that--print it out if you have to. It pretty much summarizes how I think, too--when I'm thinking.
Good luck with the AA meeting tonight, they're not so scary as that.
Take care,
TB

I have plenty of fun at parties, watching sports games, and out with friends without the booze. It takes a little while, but you will make it.
Glad you have your first AA meeting tonight. Let us know how it goes.

Doing things sober now I have learned that I can have more fun that I used to when I drank because things are simply just more fun now sober. Can you imagine having fun when your brain is actually working? LOL It is so much better. It is so much more relaxing knowing I no longer do things that I will be regretting down the road.
Congrats on your sobriety!

Quitting drinking was the wisest move I ever made.
AA has been an awesome adventure in living sober.
I do hope you will find something equally beneficial
and exciteing.....
I hope your meeting went well. I understand your thoughts about drinking making occasions more fun, but I imagine that thought is more of a habit than actual reality. For me, I can remember too many times when my drinking is what made the occasion not so fun. I think drinking at occasions stopped being fun long before the habit of thinking it would be fun was gone. Today I actually had a spontaneous thought about how an occasion wouldn't be fun if I were to drink and feel like I am overcoming that misleading habit. It sounds like you may be on a similar road, congrats on your 8 days!
