Question New Here

I started going to AA meetings because of my roommate. He was the worst drinker I have ever seen and I needed guidance. They let me talk and told me about al-non. Anyway when I went to the meetings people would talk and I could relate to a lot of what they said. Anyway my roommate has moved on and has been sober for the past eleven months. In that time period my drinking has gotten worse and worse.

I went to a AA meeting on 10/04 and for the first time I said I was an alcoholic and not al-non. Then about two hours after the meeting I got drunk. Then I was sober from 10/5 - 10/19 without going to AA. Then I got drunk every day from 10/20 - 10/23.

I went back to AA on 10/24. I have been sober since and went to another meeting today. When I went to the AA meetings as a al-non member I always
talked. Since I have gone to the two meetings as an alcoholic I have been afraid to talk. Maybe I can do that here?

Welcome, driftwood. You've found a good place and talking is encouraged.

Are you an alcoholic? To have much chance of recovery in AA, it's fundamental to know what that means to be an alcoholic as AA defines it. If when you sincerely want to, you find you can not quit drinking entirely, or if you have little control over the amount you drink once you start, you're probably alcoholic.

The way to really find out is to read the Dr.'s Opinion and first 3 chapters in the Big Book with a knowledgeable sponsor.
