Hello All! New to the site!

Hello everyone, thought it was about time I posted something on here as I had read this site a bit before I made the decision to get help and change my life.

My sober date is Jan. 23, 2009. The few days leading to my asking for help were complete agony, long story short I couldnt put a drink down for even 3 hours without feeling withdrawal symptoms, so I got myself into a detox in my hometown of Minneapolis and then from there jumped on a plane to begin my 60 journey of "wilderness therapy" in the mountains of western NC. The program wasnt your traditional rehab, they strip you of all the comforts of home and you spend 3 weeks at a time out in the woods. It was pretty tough but definatley was something i needed and would reccomend it to parents seeking help for their children (this program was for 18-28 year olds, but there are many for juveniles) im very happy that I did it and stuck through the rough times not having any connection to the outside world and working closely with some amazing counselors that have also gone through recovery. I graduated the program and am now in south Florida at a half-way, going to meetings every day and working with my new sponsor, I am loving this new life I chose to start for myself.

A couple days before I decided to get sober I browsed this forum and read some amazing stories of recovery on here and it helped me and motivated me to do something about my problem. Thank you to those that share their stories on here, this looks like a great bunch of people on here and look forward to posting more in the future!

Welcome

Was that wilderness therapy part of Turtle Island or Eustace Conway's school?

Glad to see you, stay awhile!

Hey Sam,

I'm jealous, lol. People spend thousands of dollars each year for the type of get away that you experienced, you know, camping, fishing, turn off the cell phones, geez, what a treat. Sometimes we need to get away just to catch up, if you know what I mean.

Welcome to your new life and to the SR family.

Way to go Sam, nice to see you here.
I also became sober on Jan 23.
We have that date in common.
It's been a struggle at times, but well worth it.

Wow.. I really commend you on the huge steps you've taken to get here, unfortunately most people aren't as willing as you to change their life.

Welcome to the 'family'
