Thumbs up TOPIC: You've Been Diagnoised With Alcoholism/Addiction. What If It Were Cancer.

Hi Im Sharon and Im an Alcoholic.

By the grace of my HP and people
like you here in SR I havent found
it necesssary to pick up a drink of
alcohol since 8-11-90.

For that and u I am truely grateful.

I was diagnoised with alcoholism
back in Aug. 1990. When i found
that out I thought it was the end
of the world. The end of my life.

No fun, no laughter, no joy, no
friends, no nothing.

The only thing we had/have to do
is not pick up a drink or drug and
follow a step program, change some
things and share our own experiences
strengths and hopes with others.

For an alcoholic or addict that is hard.

Sometimes to much for us to handle.

It's either follow a recovery program
or die.

Well i almost died from drinking. Thank
my HP it didnt happen.

Now.......

Imagine urself diagnoised with something
fatal. Cancer. What if it would cost u
lost of a part of ur body. Leg, arm, etc.

Sounds pretty hard to imagine. Right?

In reality it could and anything is possible.

Here we r today changing ways we use
to live our lives so we can become
better functable people in society with
out the crutch of alcohol or drugs.

What if things in our lives were worst.

Think about it.

Im grateful for what and whom I am
today. Im happy to be me.

Share ur thoughts if ud like.

Thanks for letting me share.

We are VERY fortunate to have a disease we can control and manage, instead of a disease like cancer.

I often express gratitude for that.

l have often thought that !
Been followed by one disaster after the other, mainly because of alcohol.
And everytime something bad happened l allways thought 'well, l can get out of this if l stop drinking"( and l did 38 days ago)
Being alcoholic is bad, but something like being told you have a deadly desease seems much worse to me.

At any rate, I am convinced that He [God] does not play dice.

If i were diagnosed with cancer I would want to take steps to get better and be proactive about it. Same goes with addiction, be proactive, im not going to get better without working for it.
