day 6...incredibly tired
day 6...incredibly tired
is this when this hits? I had a really tough, stressful work week so am trying to decipher if my 'could sleep all day' feeling is due to my lack of alcohol/new sobriety or stress. Probably both. But I would be interested in hearing from those of you that experienced significant tiredness when it hit and how long it lasted.
Thanks!!
Thanks!!
Yes snowdog I did get tired for about 10 days or so. It is pretty common from what I have heard from others. The duration may be something that is particular to each one of us who suffers from it. It's important to get lots of rest, drink plenty of water and to eat healthy foods. Exercise is also a good thing to do to get the blood flowing. Congratulations on your 6 days of sobriety!! That is really cool!!
I felt tired for the first few day and it was all I could do, to get through the simple household chores. I hadn't been eating well for months, as alcohol had replaced many meals, so when I began eating three good meals every day, it really helped.

So proud of you, keep it going on sister!
Due to abusing my body with chemicals for so long, i slept straight through the first 9 days while in rehab. i woke up to all sorts of wires and tubes sticking out of me! i thought something more serious had happened to me other than just walking into rehab and asking them to help me stop using. i will never forget those first few moments of panic for as long as i live.
Congratulations on this day clean!!
i encourage you to stay stopped and go to meetings.

Thanks for all the responses! I just got back from the grocery store where I stocked up on all kinds of healthy foods and snacks. I have several critical work assignments due over the next two weeks and the way I feel now, I could sleep for two weeks!
I do have to say, after not being able to sleep for the first few nights, it is wonderful to actually be able to fall asleep. Not to mention the vivid dreams...

I'm glad you asked that question because I have been experiencing the same thing. I am on day 11 and the first few days I did not sleep at all. I have been sleeping so much lately. I go to sleep around 1 am and sleep till about 11 am. I eat breakfast and then go back to sleep for another two hours. I'm only on this schedule because I am unemployed. lol I also have found that I am craving food like crazy. I have been eating pretty healthy, but crave sweets like you would not believe.

Yes, I am tired all the time too, and have over two weeks now. I think it's just your body adjusting to not having the alcohol, I read something about it depleting neurotransmitters in your brain and you have to allow time for them to balance out again. It's frustrating because you quit to feel better, and I know for me I could come home from work and sleep all night. I'm hoping it will pass after a month or two. Just take care of yourself and like others said, eat well. I've heard that all alcoholics are malnourished to some extent, so I think eating good nourishing meal will really help. Congratulations on 6 days!
Snowdog,
If you haven't already, you should go to your doctor and get a full physical and have everything checked out, especially vitamin levels and liver function. This way any potential problems from drinking might be ferreted out before they really jump up and bite you.
I did and it really has helped me to stay motivated. Just a suggestion.
Take care and have a most excellent day!

I too didn't sleep at all the first three nights... now could sleep all day. My poor dogs had to drag me out of bed this morning. There was also a thread a week or so ago on craving sweets. Apparently it is pretty common.
Thanks for all the feedback. I think I'll go back to bed now...

I have read and experienced it as absolutely normal. As Anna says our bodies have been using the alcohol as fuel for so long and all of a sudden gone! A good nutitional diet is a must as well as some multivitamins and cod liver oil IMO. I am coming off the anti depressant that i was prescribed by my psychiatrist and came off antabuse 3 weeks ago. Those 2 plus the usual sleepiness associated with quitting long term drinking meant i was sooooooo tired everyday!!! We don't have siesta time in Barcelona, but man i bought it back with a vengeance 3 hours most afternoons and a 10 hour nights sleep. Weekends forget about it i hardly left the bedroom, only now am i starting to relocate downstairs lol It's all good just do what you have to in order to stay sober for a time to be able to figure stuff out and get on a new lifestyle etc.
Dreams, wow vivid or what?! I'm not even going to post what dreams i have had, but i have got used to the drinking ones, 3 nights ago i was sitting with the scottish guy from dragons den (Duncan Ballentine) in a casino drinking cider (which i hardly ever drunk). Seriously though in first few weeks i would have been like OMG now i find it funny. It's all gold as long as we don't drink;-)

For me, I had TONS of energy for weeks on end. I felt terriffic. Then I slipped and drank some wine (one night of fun) and felt terrible. I have not felt that good since. The difference is like night and day. I really felt good.
Now I am working on remembering how awful I felt after I drank that night.
That felt worse than any tired I can remember.
