People DO die from this

I had a conversation with my friend who had 18 years of sobriety in AA. He also worked for the DOD doing alcohol and drug counseling for 15 years. He doesn't go to AA anymore, yet lives in good health to the ripe old age of 73.

I am not doing so hot, and am looking to him to tell me what to do. He is a surrogate father to me - the one I never had.

I share this because I never took the seriousness of this before. He says if I don't change my ways he expects me to be gone in a year. Anyway, not looking for anything here, other than to share this thing CAN kill ya.

Katie,
We don't know how long we've got, but what we do have IS RIGHT HERE AND NOW! I've been told for years that I'd only have a few more left to live by people with alot of time, etc....

We will die eventually, sober or drunk. I prefer to die sober today cuz every day drinking is another day not only wasted but puts another nail that much closer in my coffin.

It's a game of Russian Roulette! Ya never know which binge, which drink will be our last. We just don't know. But we do have a CHOICE. Am I going to drink today? Am I going to give-up? OR Am I going to stay sober this hour, day? Am I going to fight for recovery?

It all boils down to the choices we choose to make. I pray you choose to live today and NOT pick up that 1st drink!!!! Katie, you CAN decrease your odds on dieing today.... You CAN fight this fight with US! This is a WE disease, ya know!?

What are you doing to stay sober today? What changes are you making to help in aiding your sobriety? Are you getting the "support systems" down in your life? These are choices we need to look at and take action towards in order to stay sober and stay alive. I pray you are making positive choices in your life today!

We're here for ya, girl! :ghug3:ghug3

Honestly, I am just lost. I am waiting on a person to tell me where to go, but he is lost too, although he had many years of sobriety and is like my surrogate father. All I can say is tomorrow is a new day. I won't lie. All I can say is I will keep on keeping on, as long as I am allowed to post here. I've had a setback. All I can do is see my therapist tomorrow. I've realized I have some serious issues. That is all and thank you for allowing me to post this.

The sad thing, it usually destroys you before it eventually kills you

Thank you, Katie!

I'm NO ANGEL... just one crippled alcoholic wanting to help another!
Luv ya for that, however! Thank you!

So, I am going to rehab all, for 90 days!!!! Yeehaw. I am scared, but know I need it!!! Thanks to all of you here. I have needed your support and, if I can bring my computer, I will do that as well. Anyway, this decision was a work in progress, as I've been a mess in progress. Thanks!!

Katie, I agree with what Nicki said, none of know how long we have.

All we know is that we are here right now, today.

And, I am so, so grateful to be here sober.

My sponsor told me when I went to my first funeral to bury a member of the group, he said " Better go get a black suit, we're gonna go to a lot of funerals." So far, that's been true. This is a deadly, deadly thing we have.
