If I had only been drinking, I'd feel good today. My last drink was a single 16 oz can of beer Wednesday morning. THC detox is another story, and combined with starting an SSRI yesterday, I feel about as dead as... (fill in the blank).

I can't manage to do the "quote" thingy, but I know what Hevyn is talking about. My last 'day one' just felt different. I felt something I couldn't define, but it was a very 'real' feeling. I had just turned a corner, crossed a line - something I can't describe.

I too hope this is your last 'day one'. Remember, if you don't pick up, one day at a time, you'll never have to go thru this again.

Its harder to eat/sleep for a few days but thats about it. (cold turkey'd it after smoking daily for 10 years).

The alcohol detox is pure hell though. Good luck.

Fortunately, I've never had any serious withdrawal symptoms from alcohol. Mostly just restlessness and agitation that goes away long before the THC detox is over. But I know alcohol withdrawal can be scary and dangerous. Thanks for the reply and welcome to SR!

My experience is more like DK's. Everyone's body is different. I think we can all agree it isn't fun to quit at first, but worth it in the long run.

I had never heard that THC detox was so bad. Does it matter how much you smoke or is it just that it was daily usage. I smoked a lot of pot in my day but I never felt any withdrawals??

I'm sure the withdrawal symptoms are dependent on how much, how often, and how long you've used. There are probably individual differences as well. I don't smoke huge amounts, but I've been a daily wake and bake type smoker for over 20 years. If I had weed, I stayed high. It became my normal state, my baseline. I smoked through college and at all my jobs. I did and taught gymnastics high, I took my last driver's license road test high, I went to outpatient classes high. I'm sure it's rewired my brain just as alcohol has. So... taking it away is pretty uncomfortable!

Thanks DK!
I have not done the wake ands bake since college but I would take a toke (really a bowl) after the kids went to bed most nights. That was the least of my problems Though probably the only one I miss.

I smoked the same way. I was high all the time. It was how I lived my life. I had a great link that talked in detail about the detox symptoms, but I just checked it and it isn't valid anymore. It was right on though. The first time I detoxed, I had basically been high the previous 4 years.

Fortunately, it does go away and it keeps me from getting back into the 24/7 smoking mode. I would always replace the high with alcohol, but not to the same extent. It finally clicked that I just need to be sober. Not that it is easy, but I am tired of constantly fighting my addictions.

DK, sounds like you have done this before too. It will get better, and then being sober becomes the adventure!

One substance leaving, and one that needs to build up. Yummy, combo there, Paul. Stay the course, my friend. If you get jiggy, you know what to do. :

Congrats on such a good start.

Hope to see more of your posts tomorrow.

Hugs,

Donna

Ya know... I can't really say it "feels" different this time. I had way more energy and positivity going into my last attempt with lasted 24 days.

When I first started SSRIs for PTSD many years back I felt just awful, like I hit a concrete wall going 60 miles an hour. It took time for my brain chemicals to adjust. It's okay not to feel so hot right now. Be easy on yourself, Paul, and give it time. Just don't pick up no matter what. It would make it much worse.

You have lots of support if you want it.

Hugs,

Donna
