mine actually keeps me quite humble. i haven't posted in awhile. i was a home drinker. straight vodka chased with water. i'd sit on the sofa watching the tube. after enough shots, i'd pass out in this position.

my oldest son's friends gave me the nickname of "the thinker" due to this position. fortunately for me, i have not assumed "the thinker" position for 50 nights now.

thanks to this board for keeping me strong. i feel great now. it's awesome to be able to eat breakfast and come into work clear headed instead of coming into work toxic and hurling water (since nothing else was on my stomach) almost every day.

i guess i could change my avatar to something more positive but that shot is a daily reminder of what i become when i let the alky rule me. it's embarrassing. it truly is. but that is what i was.

thanks for starting this thread. i love how people think.....how they pick something as small as an avatar and what that reveals about them. very cool.

when I saw this thread, I thought about myy avatar and decided it was a good time to update it.

my new avatar is a picture of a living labyrinth that continues to grow. I was a part of creating it 3 years ago as I returned to recovery, and its growth is special to me.

Its Scotland isn't it, we all have our own tartan, wear kilts all the time, play the bagpipes, drink whisky, eat porridge, and join our clans to do battle.

We've no phones and it takes ages to get anywhere cos we've only single track roads with sheep all over them. Hence my avater, its my normal drive to work !!!!!!!!

Got to always keep an eye out for any escaped Haggis and the Loch Ness Monster.

Mine is the symbol of the order of Buddhist contemplatives, a group of Soto Zen monasteries. My grandfather was a monk at Shasta Abbey, in california.

I'm also Buddhist.

The three drums are symbolic of the Buddha, Dharma (the teachings of Buddhism), and the lay community. The ship is what transports us to the shore of enlightenment. I'm ashamed to admit that I took a long time to remember this, as while I was using (stopped yesterday!) I stopped practising. I just couldn't get into the whole letting go of addiction part, which is the center of Buddhism. I'm meditating and reading the Shobogenzo again though ^_^

The entire basis of Buddhism is releasing ourselves from addiction, be it substances or material things, or people.

Gee nothing too deep here. I alternate between a fly and a bike, guess what I like to do when I am not working, doing work around the house, attending to kid matters, doing yard work, getting my honey do's done, go to a meeting, or....geez I need to go fishing...

Mine is an old Norman Rockwell painting, "Freedom of Speech". It reminds me of some one sharing at an AA meeting.

Mine -

Is part of a song from High School Musical.
I guess this is my inner child coming out.
I love these movies and nothing puts me in a better mood.
The song 'Everyday' kinda keeps me strong. Reminds me to
"Keep The Faith", hold on and be young..

they have to Be in a cocoon for a period of time, and on there on
break trough that little hole on top of the cocoon,
and there is-

a little secret on top of that while they are trying to break trough
that little Hole there is a Juice Fluid that Helps them
Develop there Wings if you, or me, or any one, was to Help
the Butterfly break out of that cocoon he could die
cause maybe his wings wont be fully develop to fly,

that fluid juice and the amount of time that it takes for the Butterfly to break free is what counts for there wings to be develop

and the Woman it stands for me, cause I'm that Butterfly been Develop, and Process, and Mold, and shape, into God's alikeness

Mine reminds me of my son and I. Together but with a different focus. A mom with her addicted son is what I saw. Hmmmm
