joy of a sober meal...

just wanted to share...

I always get stoned after work, and only after that i'll start cooking, being all tired and depressed..

Today i'm sober, just for today, and I cooked an excellent meal and it tasted soooooo good.

sweetly spiced rice (italian herbs) with sweet chilli's and euh.. some other vegetables I don't know the english word for (i'm Dutch)..I made the vegetables hot by using some red peppers (not too much = overkill), and a nice hamburger. As a sidedish slices of cucumbers for freshness....

excellent...I really feel content now..

I loved reading this, thanks for sharing!

One of my hobbies is cooking, but it used to be an excuse to drink for me. Italian recipes meant lots of wine getting chugged, BBQ = much beer, etc. If I did manage to get the food cooked right I was always too trashed to appreciate it.

That's just one of the many benefits of recovery, the ability to cook and enjoy a great meal. I'm definitely grateful for it!

I've been eating better as well. And actually enjoying it. For some reason I used to be so anxious after work and a beer or two that it was hard to eat!

Isn't it ironic that the substance I used to "detox" from the day actually had the opposite effect. This skinny guy will eat at any time now. Go figure.

Another "second" here. I've been sober about three weeks and have noticed that I'm eating healthier and have a much greater appreciation for food.

Sound delicious! Good for you I'm starting to notice life's simple pleasures as well. My latest: waking up knowing where I am, and being able to close my eyes for a while for a short extra snooze.

Matt - mouth watering
