Winners

I believe everyone here at SR are winners.

I have done so much reading here on the forms. Plus tons of reading about addiction. Everyone here is here to help themselves. I believe if a person seeks help, is a winner. There are so many that never seek help and don't want help.

Some people may think that recovery programs are for losers. And might look at it as a flaw. I see it a different way. I wish people would see the postive in just wanting help.

I agree with you. People who are in recovery are definitely winners. This is a hard road that we have chosen, and sharing it, with other caring people, really helps.

And, yes, we are all here to help ourselves, but also to help each other.

Thank 1963Comet!

I've lost so many times trying to do it myself, that it's nice to be on the winning side for once.

I have just read some post where some feel ashamed to ask for help or go to a recovery program. Just wanted them to understand that it is a good thing to want a better life.

Was hopeing that people would look at is a postive instead of negative.

That's one reason it has taken so long for me to find the courage to say, hey, I want to beat this, but I feel I would be more successful with some back up. Such a vicious cycle.....drinking, shame, drink to numb shame, ashamed for drinking, and round and round it goes.

I don't feel like a winner yet, but I feel like I *could* be one day.

Thanks Comet.

I've always felt that there are no losers in recovery, only winners. As long as we continue to try there's no way we can lose.

It's really, really hard to feel like a winner when you are in the grips of addiction. For me, there was so much negativity in my life from my family, from everything, that my self-esteem (fragile, at best) had disappeared. There is also prejudice from society toward addicts - 'Why don't you just stop drinking?' But, when you get on the road to recovery, you really will begin to feel like a winner and you will be.
