Smile TOPIC: Are You Going To A Meeting Today? Yes or No and Why Or Why Not?

Hi Im Sharon and Im An Alcoholic.

By the Grace of my HP and people
like you here in SR I havent had
a drink of alcohol since 8-11-90.

For that and you I am truely
grateful.

HAPPY DAY to you SR.

Here I am some few days sober and
Im heading to a "NEWCOMERS" meeting
at 2pm....

Hmmm....you say....Why would u
want to do that? Why after so many
years u need to go to a "BEGINNERS"
meeting....?

Am I that desperate to go to a meting?

Am I bored? Looking for something or
someone in particular?

What is it that keeps me going back
there?

Recovery in meetings has the answers
i need to stay sober one more day.

Havent I gotten all the answers by now?

Nope....if i knew all the answers then i
would think im cured and its ok to drink.

Na...i remain teachable even today.

It's the "newcomers" and the "oldtimers"
that inspire me to stay sober.

It shows me that its still not safe out there
in the world to drink sucessfully as a
human being....

So my safe haven is at a meeting....and
besides i can do some service work by
suiting up and showing up and bring my
tray of crackers and cookies.

I love doing that.

Share ur thoughts on where u r with
a meeting.

Thanks for letting me share.

Smile No meeting today for me

This the first meeting I've missed since Wednesday; went to 2 yesterday. I have to rest to go to work tonight. But, I plan to attend tomorrow at noon The meetings, reading the BB, and my prayers are all that's keeping me sober. I pray for God to stand between me and that first drink...so far He has!

I go to 6 meetings a week, and I have 4 commitments.

Too many, you think? I dunno. It works, and I'm not about to find out just how many less meetings I can go to before I drink.

Besides, I drank everyday so.......

No, but I'm on day 6 (for the first time ever!), and posting on here is keeping me busy.

I usually don't go on Sundays because of scheduling......but I'd like nothing more then to go to one-----so maybe I can juggle things around.
I sure do need meetings to stay sober
~thanks for the post

Well....im glad folks r making meetings and
staying close to their program....

I went to my 2pm beginners meeting and
read the Preamble....

I also brought my tray of goodies with just
a few items remaining after the meeting.

Sometimes a little snack goes good with a cup
of coffee in a cool A/C meeting room when it's
blazing hot outside.

When i pulled up at the meeting a few minutes
later a van dropped off a few men from a halfway
house. Others filed in with papers needing to
be signed.....

Some shared about different things but the
topic was about based on the reading from
the Daily Reflection Books on todays date
June 10th....

Today was the first day since ive returned
to Baton Rouge to Bring my AA book and
Daily Reflections book with me to my meeting.

Usually someone will read from our books to
give us a topic....its a good way to follow
along....

You should see my book....hmmm a feel
a new topic brewing...lol

Anyway...back to meetings....

I have a Speaker meeting tonight i could
go to at 7pm and another 12 noon
meeting tomorrow before i begin work
on Tuesday....

Going to meeting is a habit......its a good
healthy habit to get into while following
ur path of recovery.

Thanks for letting me share.

Its monday here and a public holiday, I may make a meeting tonight, I usually do on a Monday but I am going into prison to give an NA presentation (meeting) with another member and it has taken us months to get this organised, in the last weeke the prison rejected a whole bunc of us. We had all planned to go together for the first meeting but its in Gods hands and its just two of us.

A bit nervous as the last time I was in priosn was 1975 and I was in prison, but also excited to be able to carry the message.

Will go to a meeting after if it is not to late.

No, meetings don't really do it for me personally. I do use a variety of other resources including, obviously, SR, SMART, Lifering, one-on-one therapy and a variety of recovery related reading material. I have materials from the above recovery programs, an NA Basic Text, and material I have gathered from the various rehabs I have attended.

tyler, I was just thinking (dangerous that!) if you read teh basic text then imeetings are basically some form or other of what is contained in the Book. Maybe try other meetings. As I said just a thought.

I went to the "newcomers"meeting today and ummm....
maybe 20 minutes left of the meeting people were stiring
...like getting up, picking up their papers that were signed
and left...

I thought to myself....guys...wait....DONT LEAVE....or Why
leave so soon....then i remember the feeling of squirrleyness
in early recovery....I knew i didnt want to be there...yet
being in a controlled enviroment in rehab i had no choice...

But i did have a choice after a month and i was released on my
own....sure i went to meetings after meetings...and i felt
so out of place....squirrelly...anxious....everything....but
i stayed and i listened and listened and listened and absorbed.

Today i wanted to yell out to the guys leaving...dont leave
before u see the miracle happen....

I know most of those coming in to those meeting are
there for one thing....to get their papers signed and
off they go...maybe one of them will pick up something
they heard today and return....

That's why its important for us who have been sober
and clean awhile to lead the way and share how
we have stayed clean and sober for as long as we
have,,,,,,if we all stopped going to meetings or didnt
go at all then how r the newcomers gonna know if the
program really works.....they need us....dont u agree?

Oh i forgot what i heard at the meeting today...or
something new....well at least in my book....

ASAP....what does that mean....?

As Soon As Possible.....right?

or....

Always Say A Prayer....

I guess when we get into a rut or
before our tongues get the best of us...
well at least me....i will try to remember
to do something as soon as possible....
always say a prayer instead ...

that way...i can calm down and act right
instead of re-acting poorly...

cool huh?

shannon..there's a prop..in Cali..
All kinds of courst cards...like 40 people will show up to a meeting.
i just scrible Nutz..on those damn green cards..becuase it gets
out of hand and there a lot of people just messing around disrupting
the meeting..it's like a crazy class room in there sometimes.
And i ain't no baby sitter..Sometimes I'll even sign cards outside
of meetings..And i'll even go as far as telling them to get their
damn dealers or gradmama to sign it for them.

You either want it or do don't..

wham..bam..there's only 5-6 people left after i past the cards back..
Now..we can get down to a real recovery meeting.

I went to my Sunday evening meetings. I really like this group because it's small and intimate... usually only about 8 or ten people. Everybody has a lot of sober time... some people there have been sober longer than I've been alive! I'm so grateful for these people, they've been so welcoming to me and I get SO much out of listening to them. They introduce me to other AAs at larger meetings. They encourage me to talk. I'm very lucky to have these people in my life.

aas, i can tell you one thing... i aint saying this to boost my ego, or be right... i firmly beleive what is asked of the papers, is attend the meeting, listen, try to learn something, and compleat the meeting...

when i chair a meeting, if someone brings a paper to be signed up before,or during a meeting... i say sorry... nope.. will do it after the meeting... i do get some looks, and some lip service.. if i do, i say... sorry again... and ask... do you like bars?.. not the kind one drinks in!

yep, sarcasim... character flaw # 62... lol

last night at the Panal of Experts (alive again... HG) was one of the biggest anny nights we had so far... lots of cele's.. from 90 days, to 28 years... two great storys of ES & H...

was grateful for my sobriety, recovery, and my family of misfits!

xxoo, & all good wishes to all
