Hunger

I have not been hungry since I quit drinking 10 days ago. Have any of the rest of you gone through this? I only eat because I know it is time and then it is just a bit.

I ate a lot of M&M's last night, but other than that not much.

However I am always thirsty.

No, not me.

The sugar in the alcohol kind of killed my appetite when I was drinking, but when I stopped I had a good appetite.

If you are concerned, you can always check with your dr.

Yes, it took me a couple of weeks to get a decent appetite back and probably a month before it was back to normal.

Checking with a Dr., and being completely honest about what you drank/used and the volumes of the same, is always a good idea.

I also suggest a medical check up is wise.

Try eating healthy fooods....I found following a diet
plan for diabetes worked well for me.

Be safe and enjoy your new sobriety!

I wasn't hungry for a while. My acute withdraw lasted over a week, and I had to force myself to eat.

After that, my appetite came back with a vengeance. And yeah, sweets !

Now, 6 months in, it ebbs and tides. Still like the sweets though.

hey too much... i went thru something like that, too. i've lost 15 pounds in three months, but my body just seems to be trying to get itself back to normal (i'm now at a comfortable weight). sometimes i will CRAVE sweets, esp. chocolates, and m&ms seem to have become a favorite. i've heard most folks say they gained weight when they stopped drinking, but i guess everyone is different. a lot of it for me the first week of sobriety was stress... just felt too low to eat. but i'm pretty much back to normal eating (still lost a little weight, though... go figure!)

anyway, i know this is just rambling... but i can relate.

Hi Toomutch,

Surprisingly, apart from day 1 (when I first found SR) my appetite has been great, the first day I only ate 1 banana and 1 banana and raspberry yogurt smoothie. I have to say I do however have to force myself to eat breakfast yet at the height of my bingeing I LOVED breakfast, fry up, cold pizza, left over curry, whatever as long as it was food - never got as far as trying the dogs but close on occassion!!!

My appetite seems to be the only normal thing about me just now.

But I suppose everyones different. Keep up the great work - well done

Yes--a couple of weeks, no appetite at all. But I am back to normal now and sticking to healthy foods. I have lost about 15 pounds without trying.
