The New Joy of Being Sober

Has anyone read this book, by Jack Murney?

I just got an amazon.com alert that it's just come out in paperback. The description says it "leads the way to feeling great and living well -- without alcohol".

Just wondering if anyone has thoughts on this book - whether it is a worthwhile read or not...

Haven't read it, but I'm sure interested in checking it out! Thanks for the heads-up.

Thumbs up I'm thrilled

Early in my recovery SOMEONE gave me a copy of the 'first edition'. I ended up lending it to several people, buying it again and again, etc. ....then I couldn't find it for years. I just ordered the 'New Joy...' and look forward to the insights and HUMOR. Everyone I gave it to was inspired.

Candy, I actually picked up this book at an AA meeting where there were a lot of books that had been donated for anyone who wanted them and it is WONDERFUL! The stories are so refreshing after reading those in the Big Book so many times, which are, even after being updated in the fourth edition, rather "old", if still valid. Today, I don't find the stories all that compelling in the Big Book, but the discussion and stories of members they bring out. I, as many of my friends...especially women, wish they would come out with a fifth edition of the Big Book that is more relevant to us today...such as not a chapter on the "wives" of alcoholics", but spouses...and not just he, but they, etc...back to the book...it is really great and refreshing!

Thanks for the welcome!

People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered; forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives; be kind anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies; succeed anyway....

If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you; be honest and frank anyway.

What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight; build anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness, others may be jealous; be happy anyway.

The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow; do good anyway.

Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough; give the world the best you've got anyway.

You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and God; It was never between you and them anyway.
