Special Songs

I am curently making a CD of the special songs. If it OK with the powers that be (people in charge of SR). I will make avalible the special songs by email. They can then be played on Windows media player (or the player of your choice) or burned to a CD. This can only happen if approved by Sober Recovery staff.

I like "Clean and Sober" with Michael Keaton and Morgan Freeman. As for music? Country puts me in a good space. But I still rock out too.

Thanks for all of these great responses. I would love to get that CD burned, logo. Talk the SR people into it!!!

When I was on my pink cloud, I would listen to Feeling Good (redone) by Michael Buble.

Thanks for all of the suggestions!!

I LOVED Drinking: A Love Story. I have also read it many times. I also enjoyed First Year Sobriety. If you are a binge drinker, (which I wasn't) you may like Smashed. I was too far lost for that, though.

Afterthought:

Whenever I want to clear my head when I feel a craving coming on, Enya somehow makes my cravings go away.

That's funny that I stopped by this thread as my copy of Drinking: A Love Story just landed at my house this afternoon, haven't started it yet but it has been well recommended. Another one I just bought is "Simon Plays" by David Rosenthal, which is the story about his friend kicking cocaine and alcohol. Met the author in a hot tub while on holiday.

Loving the music suggestions. Logo - yes please to the CD.

Someone mentioned Leonard Cohen's Bird on a Wire, which is tops for me, especially Johnny Cash's version.

X--Poor Girl

The Pogues--Sunnyside of the Street, ironic because they used to be my soundtrack for drinking, but now this verse really gets me:

Seen the carnival at rome
Had the women I had the booze
All I can remember now
Is little kids without no shoes
So I saw that train
And I got on it
With a heartful of hate
And a lust for vomit
Now Im walking on the sunnyside of the street

"If You're Going Through Hell" by Rodney Atkins....gets me movin' every time I listen to it:

"You ask directions from a genie in a bottle of Jim Beam and she lies to you - that's when you learn the truth"

A list of my favorite dopesick/recovery songs. All of these have the ability to make me start sniffling ... even long past the sickness. Many of them have no lyrically direct relation to recovery, they're just ... inspirational or emotional songs (or maybe it's just me)

Prince of Darkness - Indigo Girls
Say Hello to Heaven - Temple of the Dog (basically: Soundgarden)
Here Comes a Regular - The Replacements
Runaway Wind - Paul Westerberg
Bad - U2
Walk On - U2
Sometimes You Can't Make it on Your Own - U2
Ultraviolet (Light My Way) - U2
All I Want Is You - U2
Desperado - Eagles
One Day at a Time - Eagles
Wasted Time - Eagles
Heart of the Matter - Don Henley
Curtains - Elton John
Man in the Mirror - MJ
Seasons - Terence Trent D'Arby
A Letter To Elise - The Cure
Pictures of You - The Cure
Feel Alright - Steve Earle
Valentines Day - Steve Earle
Goodbye - Steve Earle
The Other Kind - Steve Earle
You're Still Standing There - Steve Earle w/Lucinda Williams
The Revolution Starts Now - Steve Earle
Jackson - Lucinda Williams
Nightingale - Norah Jones
Family Reserve - Lyle Lovett
Have a Little Faith in Me - John Hiatt
Is Anybody There? - John Hiatt
Looking for a Way Out - Uncle Tupelo
Too Early - Son Volt
Walking in Memphis - Mark Cohn
I Am the Resurrection - The Stone Roses
This is the Sea - The Waterboys
The Whole of the Moon - The Waterboys
Put the Message in the Box - World Party
Love Street - World Party
God of Wine - Third Eye Blind
It'll Be Easier in the Morning - Hothouse Flowers
Sweet Marie - Hothouse Flowers
Thing of Beauty - Hothouse Flowers
Walk Forever By My Side - The Alarm
I Will Not Take These Things for Granted - Toad the Wet Sprocket
Mississippi - Bob Dylan
The Real World - Bruce Springsteen
Living Proof - Bruce
One Step Up - Bruce
Easy - Commodores
A Long December - Counting Crows
You Better Be Home Soon - Crowded House
Peter Gabriel - Don't Give Up

What the F%$# do we know.
At the very least keep and open mind. Different ideas

The Island, or the villiage.
the concept behind it is, simular to recovery. or what actaully happens
in society today. No we're not clones, but who the hell is feeding us informations ?
We're constanlty being bombared by the media and other sources in how
be should live, belive, think .
Bascially treating us like mushroom, keeping us in the dark and feeding us BS.

The paradox behind recovery is for me to be able to think for myself
(above the influnece). my sponsor has never given especific answers
to my problems, which fustrated the hell out of me.
but he was teaching me to think for myself.

Music: lately it has been anything by pink floyd, the beatles or nine inch nails (diverse, i know)
Movies: 28 days (yes it is cheesy but comical and relatable), lord of the rings trilogy (nice to be able to escape to theeir world for a few hours), and then obviously any comedy because if we can't laugh then why are we here.

GO LEAFS!

Movie : I walk the line I watched in Rehab...it was really inspirational...

Music : The Killers do it for me - they've been a huge part of my recovery and I find their music incredibly uplifting and beautiful! LOVE Brandon Flowers!!!
