..

'Days of Wine and Roses' is the best AA/recovery related movie I have ever seen hands down....

I like 'This is It" (Kenny Loggins) as an inspirational song..

Hey Buddy

I too agree that Simple Man has to be one of the most intense songs to listen to while recovering.
There are so many. If you put in the Chili Peppers By the Way sound track you will also find some songs that are about being clean, sobriety.

I love music... its really really good to have when you are beating an addiction alone.

A book to consider reading if you have not yet:
A MILLION LITTLE PIECES. There is controversy about it but don't listen to it. the point is... beating an addiction is possible.. just ****** do it.. U can..

3 MONTHS SOBER FRIDAY.. longest since the day I touched the bottle..
Love to everyone
Mallory

Please if anyone would like to chat please feel free.. im always avaiable.

Thumbs up Been Thinking On This Issue Myself

8 days into my sobriety, I am finding that my life long truly beloved music has regained it's meaning to me once again. For this, I am thankful and greatful.

A few songs on the radio that have recently peaked me interest:

Blue October - Into The Ocean
http://www.elyrics.net/read/b/blue-o...an-lyrics.html
This one is pretty sad, but sometimes I need to feel that sadness. It's also beuatifully composed.

Red Hot Chili Peppers - White As Snow
http://www.metrolyrics.com/lyrics/21...s/Snow_(hey_Oh)
More uplifting for sure. I am a HUGE Chili Peppers fan and I think they've all struggled with sobriety/addiction more than once. You can definately hear it.

Anna Nalick - Breathe (2 Am)
http://www.lyricstop.com/b/breathe2am-annanalick.html
Another somewhat melancholy song, however, it reminds me to just slow it down and do the best I can. One breathe at a time.

The Fray - How To Save A Life
http://www.lyricsmania.com/lyrics/fr...cs_173571.html
I am from Colorado and actually know the guitarist in this band, he is a good and kind person. It translates well into their music. This song is actually about an attempt at helping someone with their heroin addiction, the story is quite sad really...but ultimately, the addict survived and kicked the heroin. Pretty intense stuff.

I am also on a mission to put together a song list. Maybe we should start making CD's and sell them on the Internet at cost just a means to produce them! Oh wait, then we'd have legal drama's too...blah. Ah well, publishing a playlist isn't illegal!

Movies:
Requim For A Dream - All I can say is whoa.

28 Days - A little cheesalicious, but it's a somewhat comical look at rehab.

Leaving Las Vegas - One of THE most depressing movies I'd ever seen, but I've watched it more than once as a reminder of the extreme.

DrugStore Cowboy - Again very sad (seeing a common theme here, must mean something eh?) but again, poignent.

Trees Lounge - Twisted, but a must see if you like Steve Buscemi

Less Than Zero - The first movie I ever really saw about excess and drug use, I must've been about 12 years old or so. It was fascinating and horrifying, if you can get past the 80's directing....it's pretty well acted, for an 80's movie.

Trainspotting - One of my favorite cult flicks of all time (I LOVE Movies too, can'tchya tell?) as it details a guy kicking heroin. The one drug I've done once, but scared me half to death and I would NEVER touch it again. Scary stuff.

Thanks for sharing all, I'll definately check out some of your selections as well.

Oh I really loved Drinking, a Love Story. It is a really great book for women alcoholics I think. This book started me on the path to sobriety and I read it at times like other people say they read the big book.

A fun fiction book for young women is Rachel's Holiday, a chick lit book that takes place in a treatment center. I say it is fun but it is pretty hard hitting at the same time.

Johhny Cash does a song about a little chunk of coal that is good rehab. He sang it everyday himself when he was in treatment. Kris Kristofferson(?) has a song on his last album talking about "how handsome you are when you are high." I don't know the name but it is a great song.

I love Intervention, it about family and friends trying to help someone with an addiction, but it may be triggering for others to watch it. Its on every Sunday night @ 10-12 on A&E. Watch it!

My favorite song also

Artist: Lynard Skynard

Song: Simple Man
Mama told me when I was young
Come sit beside me, my only son
And listen closely to what I say.
And if you do this
It will help you some sunny day.
Take your time... Don't live too fast,
Troubles will come and they will pass.
Go find the woman and you'll find love,
And don't forget son,
There is someone up above.

And be a simple kind of man.
Be something you love and understand.
Be a simple kind of man.
Won't you do this for me son,
If you can?

Forget your lust for the rich man's gold
All that you need is in your soul,
And you can do this if you try.
All that I want for you my son,
Is to be satisfied.

Boy, don't you worry... you'll find yourself.
Follow you heart and nothing else.
And you can do this if you try.
All I want for you my son,
Is to be satisfied.

My favorite songs are simple man and smell that smell by Lynard Skinard. Hero by Mariah Carey. My favorite movie is Leaving Las Vegas with Nicolas Cage. That movie tore my heart out. A must see for alcoholics.
