My First Time Here
Hi everyone. Just wanted to introduce myself and say hello. I guess I have a lot of reading to do. I guess the first question that comes to mind is: how is this different from AA or is it? My shrink referred me to this group and it took me forever to get in here, but I'm glad I finally made it. Just briefly, I am a 54 year old woman who lives in New England. Do you guys have any live groups going anywhere? If so, how do I find out if there is one near by? I've been an alcoholic forever and am really sick of it. I have 2 wonderful kids, ages 22 and 16 and even though I'm on the wagon most of the time, sometimes I fall off and I feel horrified at what I did to my kids AGAIN. It's so painful inside, it feels like my heart has a hole in it and I'm so ashamed and disgusted that I would let myself drink yet again. Then of course the pain of that makes me want to drink again to kill it. I've gone that route so many times, it's ridiculous, but yet the demon still has a big hold on me and is very powerful.
So please tell me how this group works, since I just got here. I wasn't able to get into the chat room. Do you guys chat regularly or is it more random? Are there live groups? Thanks for listening.

There usually is a chat meeting schedule for the day posted daily here. I used online recovery and the 12 Steps of AA in my recovery but there are others to choose from. There is a ton of information about all of them here so check them out. If going to a local face to face AA meeting is an option for you I really recommend checking some out. Good to have the physical support as well. good to know you're not alone.
You've made a good choice for yourself and the support here at SR is in my experience, unparalled! Let us know how you're doing and what's on your mind..
