Watch CNN, that should help put you to sleep.

Well, even if you don't get a good night sleep, at least getting up tired is better than getting up hungover. You've probably said before, but how long have you stopped drinking? If it's a long time, have you seen your doctor about not sleeping?

Look at me giving advice. UHggggg. I'm sure you know all this already. Take care of yourself and I hope you fall asleep soon.

I have nightmares from time to time too. I've found it helpful to think about them during the day, and to "coach" myself as to what I might do differently to get myself out of a bad/scary/deadly situation in my dreams. It sounds hokey, I know, but it has been known to work. Sometimes I look forward to going to sleep now so that I can kick ITs butt - whatever it is.

Hugs

oh good grief! I hate that feeling...as you said tick tock, tick tock...and it is more frustrating with each tick tock and each tick tock reminds you of when you need to get up and how much you need the sleep.

If I couldn't slip off and take naps when I really need to I don't know how I would make it.

Stay safe on that ladder. If you're lied up in the hospital (oops, sorry, I meant "in hospital") because you were injured because you were tired, you won't be able to work at all.

Take care of yourself today.

Arura: I'm sorry you're having a sleepless night.

In AA its said that the quickest way to fall asleep is to pick up the Big Book and start reading... -smiles-

Some other suggestions might include not using your bed for anything but sleeping -- its a conditioning thing... No reading in bed, watching TV in bed, etc.

Drinking some warm milk actually does help. Apparently there's a natural mind sedative that gets released as the milk warms up.

Making sure you don't drink anything with caffeine or high in sugar after about 5:00pm.

Getting into the habit of a regular sleep cycle (conditioning again). No late afternoon / evening naps for example -- if you're tired enough to take a nap then go to bed and don't get out of bed until morning.

I realize that none of this helps you right now.

There's some light meditation exercises that might help -- a sort of mild form of self-hypnosis... Turn off the lights, go to bed and get comfortable. While you're laying there, simply close your eyes and keep saying to yourself silently "...sleep... sleep... wonderful restful sleep...".

While you're doing that, focus your attention on your toes without moving them for about thirty seconds. "....sleep... restful sleep..."

Then focus on your feet. "...sleep... beautiful sleep..."

Keep moving your attention upwards, to your calves. "...sleep... restful sleep.." ... Then your thighs. "...sleep... wonderful sleep...".

You get the idea. Keep moving the focus of your attention upwards, pausing on each part of your body for about a half a minute while repeating to yourself "... sleep... wonderful restful sleep...".

Don't be surprised if your body starts to feel numb or disconnected, or like you're floating. It means you're being successful.

If you make it all the way to the top of your head without drifting off, then simply start again at your toes and repeat as needed.

Another alternative is some OTC stuff (over the counter). Tylenol "Simply Sleep" works for me. Its not as good as natural sleep but its better than staying up all night. A half dose is usually good for me for a full night. A full dose knocks me out for about ten hours. When I do wake up, I feel like my body needs to "get the sap and juices flowing" again, so some exercise upon waking helps with that, although I might be yawning for a few hours. I don't like using it unless I fell I have to. A box of the stuff lasts me about a year.

Anyway, hope this helps.

Toes... then feet... then ankles... then shins... then knees... then thighs...

Keep working slowly upwards until you get to the top of your head.

Don't look at it as loosing 50 pounds, but as gaining the ability to work again tomorrow (hopefully). Are there any day temp agencies you can go to today? Even if you shouldn't work on a ladder, there might be something you can do to make some money. Of course, I don't know about that part of British culture. I hope you get some rest today, but don't rest too much during the day. Try to stay up and active as much as possible so tonight you can hopefully fall asleep.

Take care.
