Suze, Alpine and Free2: thank you. Means a lot to me to be heard and know there are others, many other folks, likely, who are feeling like this. Sharing with recovery friends tones down the feelings and gives us proper perspective, often.
If I speak with a non-recovery work friend, and we’re talking about current anxiety, overwhelm, confusion or exhaustion levels, I often feel heard and understood, and they do as well, which helps us both. BUT, immediately after that, it goes south. Invariably they will mention happy hour or how they can’t wait to crack a cold one the minute they get home. And the DM messages on the work channel: ‘Is it too early to start drinking?’ (9:48am after a tricky system went down or something, and we’re facing a long troubleshooting session under high pressure). Wait, how do we get through all this without drinking? And not drink the minute it’s resolved? Is that an option? I can’t say any of that so I feel unheard again.
I need my people. 😉 I likely always will. Thank you.

I always think that there are opportunities to change the culture. I wonder what would happen if you replied to that DM with a cheeky: Milkshakes sound awesome...who's up for The Yard? (I mean, it sounds like heaven, it is a specialty milkshake etc restaurant
